Spa Energy Usage

Unfortunately the accuracy leaves something to be desired. The "numbers" are all self reported by the manufacturers. How can a spa that's full foamed be reported as R-6, while a spa with minimum insulation be listed as R-20??????

They are suppose to be Lab tested and certified to comply with California certification requirements.

You have a specific example where you feel the information is wrong?

I will be glad to forward it to the California Energy commision for comment.

Nope, those are self reported numbers and those R values are from who knows where.

Check out how D1 has spa R values of 6 for all their spas (not counting swim spas), Master has 12.8, Clearwater has 20 and Artesian has 22. Those R values are all over the board yet they all report similar standby watts. Hmmm, what does that tell you?

Hopefully this is a first step toward a true thrid party tested system but right now its just each company stating their values and no independent checking.
