Why Not Scented Bleach

Recommended Posts

Although I do not use bleach because of several reasons with my tub (warranty, 200 jets that increase PH even more and ozone) I was wondering why you could not use the scented bleaches that are available?

The scented bleaches tend to be lower in strength yet still high in pH (that is, they have a lot of excess lye relative to the amount of chlorine) so they would probably tend to make the rising pH issue worse. Also, as a general rule, you don't want extra additives in the water. However, if the scented bleach just had scent as the only extra item and you didn't mind the smell, then I suppose it would be OK to use. You really need to test the water to see what FC level it produces since the concentration isn't standardized nor on the bottle as far as I know (unlike 6% Clorox Regular unscented and off-brand Ultra).
