Sea Water Pools

Recommended Posts

Here in Cyprus we are suffering from severe drought and the government is starting to tax pool owners.

We feel there may be some mileage in seawater pools. It is plentiful and free. We have had some chlorinators made up for us that operate up to 45,000ppm salinity and are looking forward to trialing them.

Has this been tried outside Australia, and what do others think of this idea?

Normally they just pump in "fresh" water from the sea, and pump out the old water, as far as i'm aware, so it kinda dilutes. Most of them are resorts located virtually few meters from the sea so that's not a problem. Some even do it on constant basis so they have a fresh seawater in the pool constantly.

For residential pools located away from the sea this wouldn't be possible so you would have to dilute it every now and then with fresh water, or drain and refill with fresh seawater if that's more viable option.

None of our clients ever raised this issue, so i assume they solve it one way or another.
