Location Of Hot Tub

JPG

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, new to this forum. We are having a paver patio installed soon and want to have a hot tub as well. We were all set to have the hot tub along the back of the house on the side, and our installer called the county where we live and apparently you have to be so many feet away from glass to locate a hot tub? The location we had planned would have been outside of 3 different windows on our house.

The paver patio will be about 1,500 sf and is kind of rectangular directly behind our house and screened porch. We'll have a rather large gas fire pit, table and 6 chairs, and wanted two chaise lounges. Now I have to figure out where else we can locate a hot tub without it being directly in the middle of the yard. I thought that maybe we could put it where the two chaise lounges were (which would have been just off of the back steps), but am not sure.

If you have any thoughts I'd really appreciate it. Also - are there restrictions on how far away from your house you can be to still have electric wired to the tub? My kids and I will really be disappointed if we can't have a hot tub - help!

I appreciate your time.

Hi Julia positioning the tub makes all the difference what ever tub you buy you dont want the best seats of the spa facing the wall of your house so keep this in mind when picking out your spa also your spa tech has to have access to the equipment bay in case you ever need service I cant realy help you with where to put the spa. with out seeing your back yard and knowing your restrictions but I can give you some advice buy a good quality tub dont buy cheap and dont buy junk. I recommend sundance they are the best tub on the market even if you have to buy a 680 series you are still better off than buying from costco or rec wharehouse and every where you go everbody is going to tell you they have the best so you will buy from them dont be taken in by some slick salesman do your research and you will see and wet test them and let your own mind be the deciding factor not the salesman I hope this helped you let me know if there is anything else I can do.

It is the most ideal to place it as close as possible to an exit door from your house. Your municipality is on top of the regulations, in addition to the electrical regulations that many towns follow there are also a few building code regulations that many towns overlook, including mine. You should double check the height of the windows in relation to the spa and see if you meet the minimum height clearance even though you might not meet the horizontal distance to the house/windows. If you really have your heart set on this location, check your windows, they are likely not tempered glass but i believe if you change them to tempered $$ glass that would meet code. good luck and make sure you talk to your patio paver about slope on the patio where the tub is going, to minimize an uneven waterline

Thanks for your help Jim - great advice. I'll check Sundance out - we're also looking at Hot Spring (Envoy model).

Have a great night!

Thanks for your help Dave - I think we landed on a spot about 10 feet from the porch steps. There won't be an issue with windows in this location. Our paver guy seems pretty intelligent and had a good thought about where to place it. I appreciate your advice and time! Take care, Julia

LOL, you just went from saying Sundance is the best to a couple sentences later saying to beware of people saying their brand is best. You can't have it both ways!!!

Sundance is a very fine spa, in fact many would say ONE OF the best and I'd agree as long as the "one of" was included in the phrase. IMO you can put them right up there with Arctic, Caldera, D1, Hot Spring, Jacuzzi and Marquis (my list of course). We all have our favorites but there is no "BEST" spa (I can't help but respond, I just hate the use of the word BEST in these forums).

The reason I said they are the BEST is I have been doing this a long time I have worked on almost all brands made. I own two stores looking to open a third and service is what keeps my business afloat and i dont make a lot of money servicing sundance i make alot servicing other brands. not alot of service on sundance to me they dont give alot of problems.

and MANY people quoted the same story about why they think their brand is great. I can see saying they are "one of" the best but saying they are "the best" is just hyperbole IMO.
