fast43
I am installing a new VIKING pool and have a question concerning backfill. Many people suggest mason sand which costs about $22/ton. The individual that I bought the pool from told me to use limestone gravel (pea gravel) which costs about $6/ton. Any suggestions? have laid the sand down for the base. neohiopool
Hi, we have had 2 Viking pools built. And both times our builder has used mason sand as the backfill. They "washed" it in as they were filling the pool and we have had no issues. The top 5-6inches is topped off with gravel as the base for the pool deck. I asked my installer about using other stuff to backfill and he said he did not like using gravel because it was too coarse to be placed up against the pool. Not sure if that helps you at all. Pathfinder
Your backfill should depend on your soil conditions and geographic location. Limestone has good compaction and drainage capablities if your in a wet climate. If you are in northern area with frost Id recommend a slurry mix of sand & cement. It settles great and you are still able to dig it out in the future if repairs are needed.

A 1 to 13 mix of crusher dust or regular quarry sand and cement is most certainly the way to go no matter the terrain. this allows a secure backfill and provides easy excavation for future repairs. Vaughan Williams
Use 3/8 gravel... Been in the fibeglass pool business for years and will use nothing else other then this. Here in Cyprus they reckon concrete foam is thing. Any views?
