topnurse
Hi All! We live in Southern California and I have virtually never heard of using fiberglass. Any thoughts on why that would be? Is it a weather thing? Benefits v. any issues of using fiberglass in general? Anyone have any info, please share. We're getting ready to build and trying to find out all we can. Thanks, Topnurse Temecula, CA

Thanks, Topnurse Temecula, CA Fiberglass is non reactive, unlike plaster, which makes water balancing much easier and will consume less chemicals. Algae will not stick to the surface which makes it much easier to treat when it occurs. A fiberglass pool will need much less maintenance than either a plaster or vinyl pool (no acid washing and replastering required and no liners to replace). The biggest drawbacks to fiberglass pools are that you are limited to the pool shapes and sized available (no custom designs) but there are many models to choose from so the selection is very large and the price is usually higher for a fiberglass pool (but with the rising costs of concrete they are becoming very competative with gunite and in some areas of the country are actually less expensive!) Also the install time for a fiberglass pool is much faster than a gunite pool. IMHO, fiberglass pools are the best type to get....and I own one. I did a lot of research before deciding on filberglass and I couldn't be happier.
