I have been getting the 121 error and my pool is not generating chlorine. I read about the voltage issue and metered at 36v dc. This is a bit high, correct? I have removed the cell and gave it an acid bath from a few known good guides. The cell did not foam/phis up and appears to be clean. I also read it could be the flow sensor.

flow sensor shows the following.

3 leads

0 0

-0

the bottom does not connect to any of the 8 pins

top left goes to the yellow pin

top right goes to the brown pin

If I check continuity from brown to yellow I get:

37 ohms pool off

37 ohms pool on ( reversing indicated )

37 ohms pool on ( reversing, flow indicated )

37 ohms pool on ( flow indicated ) : pending results.

(BTW: during this test I noticed it was in cell reversing "almost" all day )

guessing its stuck close? Yet the flow light comes and an off.

The sensor costs my arm, and the cell my leg. I can afford one or the other but not both. Is this switch in fact stuck? I see the manufacture has filled the active switch with a poly like substance so that the 10 sent switch can not be replaced.

I will tell you that 5 years is a typical life of a cell.

A 121 code is "clean or replace cell".

If you were having sensor problems, you could get 172 or 186 or both. These units will unfortunately "stack" codes. In other words, you won't get the possible second service code till you resolve the first one, i.e. buy and install a new cell.

Ok, replaced the chlorinetor and I get the 190 errors now. I think I found the relay.

Here is an image of the board in my unit.

------------------- update

I was able to get the part number of of it and found it on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/GENERIC-RELAY-SCL1DPDT110VDC-FNFP-SCL1DPDT110VDC-/390242800596?pt=BI_Control_Systems_PLCs&hash=item5adc4893d4

Can I let my system run with the bad relay?

Also could this have be why I was getting the 121 errors, understand its a good time to change it anyways.

Replaced the relay It ran for 4 hours or so and finally spit out the 190 error again. If I clear the code I get a 171 ( board service ). Seem this was triggered during cell reversing.

I took the board and checked it for issues but I dont feel there is any harm to the board not much on there I dont have in my electronic inventory. I tried the pool voltage test labeled on the back of the front board, all voltages are good. I used the test button checks and all vales are a bit low. 2.8 gpl was 2.7, 75 f was 74, 91 f was 91. Guessing that is all fine. The flow censor is brand new.

The test pdf Says "reset the internal computer" ( do this by resetting the unit ) Like turning it off? IF so that has been done many times.

I see the manual says 171 will occur if I get a 190, is the first code the relevant one?

About the relay.

I replaced the replay, the old relay was not welded shut. The new relay is in place and all solder points have been checked. What else could cause this?

Any ideas why I still get the 190/171 ?

I can not believe no one suggested this? -- Well I'm one of the most pool-literate people here so maybe this is not obvious but the cell was reversed after replacement. I did not see anything indicated the correct direction at first glance in the manual. After reading the warnings tucked away in the back of the manual I saw a suggestion note of the flow of water in the incorrect direction being hazardous. Looking at the install pages I see there is an arrow marking the flow of water and the orientation of the cell. I flip it to the correct position and the problem was gone. Good thing I did not get this so call explosion. I learned a lot :)
