Richard320 Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 I bought one of those blue bubble wrap covers for the pool. I need to cut it to fit now. There's a floating tablet chlorinator tethered to one wall. Can I put the cover over it, or shall I cut a hole for it? Quote
quantumchromodynamics Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 I don't think that floaters are good to use. They can cause problems due to concentrated chlorine in one area. You have to be very careful about trichlor, they contain a lot of cyanuric acid and the cyanuric acid can easily go way too high in a very short period of time. Trichlor should also not be used in a skimmer. You should switch to liquid chlorine or regular unscented Clorox bleach. What is your current cyanuric acid level. Quote
Pool Clown Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 To answer your question, you're better off to NOT cut the cover but cut the cord on the floater, and try to float it out into the center of the spa then put the cover on trying to "trap" the floater in the middle of the spa. Circ pump should keep the chems mixed enough to not cause any water problems. Quote
quantumchromodynamics Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 If a floater sits in one area, it can drop concentrated chlorine straight down and cause staining, especially on a liner. A circulation pump will not always circulate well enough to prevent this. And, many circulation pumps are on a timer, and are off for hours at a time. I think that the floater could also cause premature aging of the solar cover. Quote
Pool Clown Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 Sorry, for some reason i thought this was a hot tub only. Does it have a liner too? Did not see that in earlier post. If you keep it tethered, i can see where you might have a problem with the floater. But overall, i don't think a floater can cause staining problems. Assuming its not crammed with several tabs. This time of year, (cold) 1 to 2 tabs max is plenty. Quote
