Nazman Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 Hi everyone, I recently set out to clean my own pool and today I vacuumed and cleaned out the filter cartridges. When I started up the pool I waited for water to come out of the pressure valve and closed it, but then I noticed that their was no suction from my pump and the water was just swirling in the pump and I checked my goldline control salt system and it read "no flow". I have been reading different forum topics and I can't figure it out is it my pool pump something to do with prime? or is it the filter cartridges are too old? Please I really need your advice so I can get this fixed. Also my pressure valve that reads the psi is broken the gauge doesn't work anymore my last pool guy didn't really seem to care, maybe is the pressure to high? Thanks again. Quote

Hello Naz, Did you open or close any valves before you cleaned the filter? Did the pressure gauge needle (the one on the filter tank) go up? Is it possible you did not wait long enough for the pump to completely prime? "The water is swirling" Like water was flowing into the pump (priming)? Or like the pump is full and you see air bubbles going around (swirling) in the pump? Quote
Nazman Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 Hey Pool Clown, I didn't close or open any valves only the drain plug. My pressure gauge is broken so lol! And I waited for about 3 mins, should I have waited longer? The pump is about 2/3 full when it is swirling and it's a little bit of water coming out of the suction tube, and it just swirls. Sorry I am a newbie at this, was I suppose to wait longer? Could it be that I assembled the filter wrong, or is it that after dumping all the water out of the filter the pump must prime again? One more question: I disassembled my cell how am I suppose to clean that cell, just dump it in 1 part acid 3 parts water with the plastic cover still on and the wires attached? Thanks again, sorry I am a newbie, thanks for your help! Quote
Pool Clown Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Pump should have primed by three min. you would think. Some cartrage filters need to be assembled in a certan way otherwise the pump will dead head (nowhere for the water to go). Who is the manufacturer and model of your filter? Also, make sure the pump is getting enough water ie. correct water level in pool, unobstructed skimmer weir (door), etc. Also check to make sure the o ring on the pump lid is in place, if you had opened the pump. Nazman Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 My filter is a Jandy CL580 Cartridge Filter could I have placed the cartridges wrong? The water level is good I checked it out, my skimmer does not have a weir (don't ask the house already had a pool LOL!) I took out and placed the pump o ring on like 5 times so I think I made sure of that, could it be the filter assembly? Quote
Pool Clown Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Don't think the filter is mis assembled. Those pretty much have one way to go together. You should get a pressure gauge anyway. You need one to help with judging how dirty the filter is. And it may give us some insight into what may be happening. Quote
Nazman Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 Thanks for your help, so now should I get a replacement gauge for the filter? Can I get one at my local Pool Supply or do I need a Jandy replacement model? Could it be my cell? Or the filter cartridges? Thanks again. Quote
Pool Clown Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 Yes, any gauge 0-60 psi will work. You don't need to have a genuine Jandy gauge. Sure, could be your cell, debris that got past the filter when you took the elements out, could have migrated to the cell where they got caught there and caused a blockage. Could be the elements, but you would have probably had that flow problem before you opened up the tank. Quote
Nazman Posted December 1, 2009 Author Report Posted December 1, 2009 I checked the cell it seems fine, I had the problem after cleaning it, it seemed fine before the cleaning. I will try checking the filter its just a chore to open it and wait for all the water to spill out. If nothing happens Ill go ahead and get a new gauge in, I just don't want to break anymore stuff LOL! Thanks again, sorry I'm a newb LOL! Quote
Nazman Posted December 2, 2009 Author Report Posted December 2, 2009 Today I went ahead and took the filter apart and put it back together started it up and still didnt work, same problem water swirling. I checked my aqua rite controls and the cell reads no flow. I waited a little bit to see if the pump motor was priming and the pump basket was filling but it wasn't being pumped out and I noticed some water coming down from the side of the filter. I didn't change the guage but I think the filter might have too much pressure in it. And I took apart the cell and put it in some acid and still nothing. What should I do now? Could it be that after I vacuumed the leaves all got stuck inside the piping and now their is no suction because the leaves are blocking the suction pipe? (I didn't use a vacuum plate but I will get one if that's the problem) I am starting to hate pools! LOL! I think I might fill it with dirt and put a basketball court or something LOL! Quote
Nazman Posted December 3, 2009 Author Report Posted December 3, 2009 I went down to the pool and was fiddling with the plumbing, the interesting thing is when I put the suction pipe to spa the pump basket fills, when I put it back to pool it drains. I don't know if it is a suction problem because the filter is filled all the way up, could this still be possible. I have no idea what is going on. Does anyone know a good pool repair in the Los Angeles Area? Please help me Quote
Pool Clown Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 It sounds like you got something in the suction line on the pool side. Either a clog or perhaps a leak allowing air to be drawn into the pipe i.e. killing the pump. Quote
Nazman Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 Hello everyone thank you for contributing, I would especially like to thank Pool Clown for all his help. The Problem has been solved............Multi-Valve Control. The one that leads to the return lines and the solar....was closed. I would also like to apologize for being such an idiot and not realizing it earlier, the valve is electric and somehow closed itself.... I got a new pressure gauge in and everything seemed fine, the filter was at 10 psi!!!!! I AM SORRY. Thanks again, everyone and especially pool clown (The only replier LOL!) Quote
