AMG Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 I cleaned the surface of the tub spin-n-span perfectly, drained, flushed, drained. fill spa up, 1 whole bottle of Jet Clean, run for 2 hours. drain spa, flush, wipe down inside replaced with brand new filters. fill spa up completely every sunday 1.5 cups of concentrated chlorinating granules (fresh water, hot spring brand) directly in filter compartment "spa up", 1 cap of bottle, only when needed (per test strips) 1 table spoon of MPS every time you use the spa (fresh water, hot spring brand) (in the filter compartment) and hit "clean" button. every 2 weeks add 2 fl oz (1 line on side of bottle) of Leisure Time "defender" (I have crappy water here with lots of calcium). every 4 months replace the silver Ion sanitizer (fresh water, hot spring brand) and drain refill 1/3 of the spa so i am filing it up right now. i'll put in the 1.5 cups of chlroein, put the silver ion in the primary filter (the one that has the gray cap) right? Then add 2oz of the defender and 1 tbsp of mps. right? Any thoughts? 1995 Hot Spring Grandee Quote
mcw53 Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 every sunday 1.5 cups of concentrated chlorinating granules (fresh water, hot spring brand) directly in filter compartment Any thoughts? Adding 1.5 cups of dichlor to 500 gallons will increase your free chlorine by ~100 ppm and cyanuric acid by ~90 ppm. It would be extremely hazardous to your health to soak in this. This will also be hazardous to your spa. Are you sure he didn't say 1.5 tablespoons? Quote

Yeah he was old and prob off his rocker Oh, and i dont think he meant a cup as in a measuring cup, but 1.5 cups of the lid of the actual container. It definitely holds many many tablespoons though per lid. Quote

I don't know the volume of your dichlor lid, but according to The Pool Calculator, adding 1 oz wt (0.9 oz vol) of dichlor will raise your free chlorine by 8.3 ppm. Quote
