agarza8543 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I have an Aqua Rite Chlorine generator that was giving me a cell power error. Long story short; I unplugged the unit from my main control board, went in the house, came back out and my dog chewed the plug almost entirely off the cord. Yes, I know, my fault for leaving it like that. I have since been informed that the problem, when you get that message, is with the board itself, not the generator. So now I have a cell that works, but I can't plug it in. The board is still under warranty. I spoke with Hayward and their customer service is nonexistent. They will not sell me the cord, or even an extra plug (which I could splice in), they will only sell the whole unit - isn't that convenient for them? At least $400 for the unit. Does anyone have any advice (besides not leaving my pool equipment in range of my dog)? Thanks for any help you can offer. Quote

If the plug wont plug back in, then you can't even splice it. You could try calling around the pool service shops and see if they have any old cells that quit working and steal a cord off. Otherwise, i got nothin for ya. Quote
txpoolguy Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Hope this isn't too harsh, but this one struck a chord... Don't beat up Hayward for an accident that was beyond their control. Just because you coudn't get what you wanted, doesn't mean the customer service was nonexistent. People have tried to splice all sorts of damage on these cells and when it damages the main board, they still expect Goldline to warranty it. I'm not aware of ANY product that can be "field modified" or "jerry rigged" and will still work properly and be warrantable. The cell is made as a single piece, sealed from the factory and is not designed to be taken apart by every Tom, *** & Mary with a screwdriver. It's unfortunate that your dog chewed it, but don't throw Hayward under the bus for maintaining the integrity of a system that has a sterling reputation for quality. Quote

Aga is only guilty of unpluging his cell and going inside for a sandwich (probably). From what i get, the dog did most of the mod, to that point. I cannot speak for the Hayward tech support, but i have heard on this forum that when you call brand X tech support, and the automation asks you if you are a pool professional? or a homeowner? that you don't get the same service or information. Iv'e been meaning to try this with the tech service i use, and see if it is true. Quote
