Very slow leak around skimmer... Ideas for sealant?

Howdy all.

Bit of background - this pool is at least 3-4 years old - though I don't know exactly. It was on-site at the house my family moved into a little over a year ago. We never got it set-up last summer, by the time there was time to deal with it after dealing with the moving in stuff it was too late in the season.

It's an 18' diameter, above ground and 4' from top to bottom (final water level will come in around 3.5-3.75' I'd guess).

We are getting it together this year. The liner needed to be replaced, which is done. Once the water got high enough, I put the two skimmer-halves back in, along with their gaskets and added a little more water. The water is about an inch above the bottom part of the skimmer now.

There is a very slow/minor leak somewhere in there. There's moisture on the bottom edge of the skimmer on the outside. I think there was probably a leak there before because there was a fair amount of rust in that section of the pool wall (which we reinforced before installing the liner).

I'd like to find some kind of compound to fill in around the edges of the skimmer to stop this leak-up. One product I found at the hardware store is J-B Weld's Water Weld, which seems like it would do the job. Given that there is already some rust on the wall in this area I'd prefer something I could use inside the pool rather than outside just so there's no moisture making it even that far.

Does anyone have any experience with this particular product, or could recommend another that'll do what I need?
