Hi all I am new to this site. Have a used tub we are going to clean/sanitize and start up. I really don't like the idea of Chlorine based chemicals and and am searching to see if there is another viable option. Came upon this new stuff called Silk Balance. I found a dealer here in SE Wisconsin that sells it...anyone have any experience with it? We both work full time and don't have the time to monkey around lots with chemistry but want to enjoy the tub REGULARLY.

Welcome to the site.

Silk Balance is not a sanitizer. The only thing it addresses is water balance. You will still need to use a sanitizer (chlorine, bromine or Nature2). If you believe the Silk Balance sales pitch, all you need to do is add 4 oz to your spa every week and it will automatically balance pH, alkalinity and calcium hardness. This stuff is expensive! $200 for a bottle that should last 16 weeks; that's over $50 a month!

Once you understand your water chemistry, you'll only need to test and possibly adjust your water chemistry (pH and alkalinity) once a week at most.

I highly recommend Nitro's decontamination procedure for used hot tubs.

What Mike says is true.

And it is great. We sell it and use it. Makes it easier. Our customers love it for the ease and the quality of the water.
