Hello,

I have a 24x52 above ground metal-framed Intex pool and am wondering how much weekly chlorine is "normal"? I mean after the initial setup and getting levels right.......how much shock/chlorine (approx.) is everyone using on a weekly basis? I had nightmares with mine last year (probably due to poor circulation because of the weak pump, but it seemed like I went thru TONS of shock.

I shocked initially to get it up to par, but since then I've only used chlorine tablets in that little float thing.

Now in a reality, I've only had the pool open for about 2 wks and I know I'm not the best person to answer your question, but I've heard that once the chlorine levels out that the floater should do the trick with minimal shocking required.

Also - we haven't had hardly a drop of rain in the past few weeks and I know that will throw things off considerably.

In our experience stable PH and Alkilinity allows less chlorine sanitizer needed.

We probably use more chlorine than actually necessary. We have an in-line auto chlorinator and use approx. 10 3 inch tabs per week which equals about 70 lbs per year.

We shock only at first sign of any cloudiness in the water which is about 4 to 6 weeks depending on number of people that use the pool and always just use liquid chlorine for the shock. The powered stuff is way more expensive and is nothing more than powdered cholorine.

Anyhow, that's what we do.
