Seawater corrodes stainless steel commonly used in pond pumps and all above ground pumps as the motor shaft. You can also get salt depositing badly wherever water is splashing this is particularly relevant to waterfalls and fountains. Depending on your source you can also run into macroalgae in other words growths and organic deposits read smells. Yes it can be done.
