What To Do On Vacation?

Hi, I'm new to the forum, new to the hot tub life. My husband and I were wondering what you do about your hot tub chemicals when you go on vacation? Do you hire someone, ask a friend, or can you just leave it until you get back? We aren't planning a vacation yet, but I'm sure we will be soon and wasn't sure how long you could go without adding chems to the hot tub.

Thanks!

I GUESS IT DEPENDS ON WHAT KIND OF SYSTEM YOUR HOT TUB DEALER PUT YOU ON! BUT IN MOST CASES IF YOU ARE GOING AWAY FOR JUST ONE WEEK, MAKE SURE YOUR WATER IS BALANCED BEFORE YOU LEAVE! I WOULD ACTUALLY PUT YOUR PH AT 7.8 HAVE YOUR ALKALINITY ON THE HIGHER SIDE AND MAKE SURE THE CHLORINE IS HIGH. IT WILL BE JUST FINE FOR A WEEK, JUST WILL NEED TO BALANCE AGAIN WHEN U RETURN! IF YOU ARE GOING LONGER THAN A WEEK THAN I WOULD HAVE A FRIEND OR SOMETONE TREAT YOUR TUB!

We use Nature2 so there really shouldn't be any chlorine to balance, I guess. I was really concerned about the shock.....I don't understand this chemistry stuff yet and maybe I should be posting this under "water chemistry" but wasn't sure where this topic would lead.

Nature 2 Is NOT a chlorine-free system. I would suggest you do a chlorine shock before you leave on vacation - assuming of course that the pH and TA are in balance - and then do the same when you return. This should be good for a couple of weeks, and I wouldn't worry about it.

I would, however, worry about using your spa without chlorine....

VERY good advice both on what to do for vacation and on the comment that Nature II will not work without some chlorine use.
