cwb27
Recently bought a house that included a spa that the sellers didn't look after (See this thread... http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=37211&hl=&fromsearch=1) Can the spa chemistry folks recommend a short term water adjustment strategy that will break down some (all??) of the accumulated calcium. The heater has relatively light build up on certain parts (other parts look almost brand new) there is also build up around of the jet internals. I haven't been able to remove any of the jets just yet, some rotate but then I can't seem to remove the unit.
waterbear
You could try dropping the pH down to about 7.0 or 7.2 (but not any lower!) afteAFTER dropping your TA to about 50-60 ppm. Over a period of several weeks you might dissolve a bit of the scale. Then again, it might not.
cwb27
Thanks, I'll give it a shot once I'm up and running. Per that thread I posted I have the heater sheath removed right now and am using vinegar to clean up what I can on for element build up. Still need to order a new circ pump and various seals.
