mcubed
I've got some old granular CYA and it seems as if the specified dosage is not adding to my CYA as it should. I'm guessing that over time (5+ years) that it may breakdown and not be viable/effective. ???
waterbear
How are you testing the CYA? How big is the pool and how much did you add? How did you add the CYA? How long did you wait before testing the level? How long did you wait before cleaning the filter? CYA can degrade by bacteria under anaerobic (oxygen free) conditions, as found sometimes in soil and closed (stagnant) swimming pools, into ammonia compounds but it is very doubtful that would happen in a container that was stored unless you kept it under extremely severe conditions. Because of the nature of CYA tests I would be more prone to suspect testing error.
