jack in oz
My pool's surface is a blue cement-based render. I sprinkled 80g of dry CYA onto the surface of my pool 2 days ago. Most of it went straight to the bottom, so I spread it around with the pool brush. I thought I had broken up all the small clumps of powder, but today I noticed white spots in places on the bottom of the pool. Is it possible that some of the CYA powder has bleached the surface? chem geek
Cyanuric Acid is acidic, but dissolves rather slowly. You normally put it in a sock or panty hose and hang it over a return flow or in the skimmer or just add it slowly in the skimmer to get caught in the filter (but don't clean/backwash for a week). It is possible that the acidity lightened the pool surface.
jack in oz
Thanks, the instructions on the container said either sprinkle on the surface or dissolve in warm water. I think I'll use the pantyhose method next time to be sure. Jack
