Leadfoot
My inground pool was installed a year ago. The contractor paid for the first 3 months of pool service. Since the company was useless, I discontinued it, but with the help of a local retail pool store, I managed the chemicals myself. For 12 months I've been unable to eliminate the scale buildup on the plaster that occurred during the early months after the poll install. It hasn't worsened or improved. It is Tahoe Blue, so the white scale is very visible. The tiles are unaffected and my salt chlorinator system works fine. I understand the scale is related to high Ph hard water in my area. Today, I had a competent 'green' pool guy take a look at it and suggested I purchase a Mag-Tek pool mag. He is using it on 3 of his clients' pools. He said the scale buildup went away and it helps regulate the chemical balance. Does anyone have any experience with this product? I'm a little skeptical. Thanks. http://www.magtekinc.com/ http://www.magtekinc.com/hold/Layout_27672.pdf

Pool magnets have been around for a long time (and from different companies that have come and gone). If they really worked don't you think they would be on EVERY pool? quantumchromodynamics
Scale is caused by an excessively high CSI (Calcite Saturation Index). If you can post a full set of chemicals we can help you figure out what to do to prevent scale.
quantumchromodynamics
The scale on new plaster comes from plaster dust (calcium carbonate and calcium hydroxide) and a high CSI. If it is not managed properly, it will form the type of scale that you have. You can use the pool calculator to calculate your CSI. To remove the scale, you will have to get your CSI below 0.0 and brush frequently.
