How To Tell If An Ozonator Is Attached

Hoping someone can help me out here. Just purchased a Jacuzzi J-470 and not sure if it has an ozonator. When I called the dealer's customer service, they said that all Jacuzzi spas have a 'built-in' ozonator yet the brochure says it is optional. There isn't anything plugged into the ozonator 'outlet' on the outside of the wiring box inside the spa panel. Additionally, there is a small clear tube inside the access panel that isn't connected to anything on one end. There are bubbles coming out of an outlet in the spa (which the dealer says means there is an ozonator), but how do I know if there is one? I don't get a strong 'clean rain' smell when opening the cover either. Does anyone have a picture or diagram of what it looks like or where it should be? Thanks. I've pretty much had it with this dealer - crappy customer service and they admitted they are having a cash-flow problem, yet he is opening 2 more stores. But that is a story for another day...

If there is nothing plugged into the ozone plug and you have tube that goes to nothing, you do not have a ozonator. The plumbing system has the mazzei injector installed on it and that is what makes the bubbles. The ozonator does not make the bubbles but does need them to introduce the ozone to the water. If you want to install a new ozone you can get a Del Ozone at many places it does not need to be a jacuzzi. You will need to know if it a 120 volt or 220 volt plug. That needs to done with a volt meter or a call to jacuzzi or a better dealer. Also do not buy a ozonator that uses a UV bulb. The output is to low to really be effective. I recommend a DEL MCD-50.

If you do install one you may not be able to smell ozone which is a good thing. If a spa has a strong ozone smell it is not being mixed with water good enough and just off gasing

You don't have an ozonator.

Thanks Kenny W. and Dr. Spa - much appreciated! Just as I suspected. Looks like I need to make another call to the dealer as they promised that it would be included. Also waiting for a new cover as they didn't have one in stock - supposed to be delivered on 9/27. Well, they'll be bringing a new ozonator too! And their customer service person needs some education as well.

Thanks also Kenny W. for the tip on the UV ozonator and the ozone 'smell'.

It just amazes me how poor the customer service is with these places. Especially when they aren't selling spas in this down economy.

I have a J-470 and after about 7 months I wasn't happy with my water being hazy just a month after water changes

I had local Jacuzzi dealer put in the ozonator and heve been very impressed with it so far - water is crystal clear and the ozone smell is clean

I highly recommend the factory ozonator from Jacuzzi
