Aquapure 1400 Error Code 172 And 186

Recommended Posts

My Aquapure 1400 is 2+ years old and of the 3 port design and is in SW Florida.

I was out of town for a couple of weeks and returned to a pool full of algae and the Aquapure display indicating Error code 172 and 186.

I backwashed the cartridge filter and cleaned the contacts on the Flow sensor but the LCD still shows service required and the 172/186 codes. Occasionally, the code numbers will be 172/185 but reverts back to 186.

Pool Clown, I have read many of your recommendations on these forums regarding the 172/186 codes and I sense that I have a bad flow sensor, however before I jump to that conclusion, do I need to do any more diagnostics/troubleshooting to eliminate any of the boards or the cell as the root cause of my problem (the cell is very clean)?

Also, I would appreciate any suggestions you can give me on where I can purchase Aquapure parts at competitive prices.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Those codes, as you know, point to the sensor. Pretty much all you can do is clean the sensor, and if the codes re appear, it is the sensor. You're the first that I've heard, having a sensor fail with the new t-cell. Congrats...

Pretty much anywhere on-line will have a better price than the local pool store, but...

I would call Jandy and really push them on this, as the sensor should last significantly longer than 2 years, especially with the prices that they charge for the part.

Good Luck

Thanks Pool Clown for the fast reply.

Hate to be the first in this type of failure.

I did clean the sensor with a brillo pad and the codes re-appeared. Do you recommend any other way I should try to clean the sensor other than water and brillo pad??

I did talk to Jandy (after over an hour on hold) on Tuesday, and they were very non-committal. Kept re-iterating the fact that I have a 5 year pro-rated warranty on the cell and the rest of the system was 1 year. Also, very quick to give me names and phone numbers of a few local dealers who could come and troubleshoot and repair the problem.

I will call again and push Jandy (if I have the patience to wait on their Tech service phone line), to see if I can get a sympathetic Tech to send me a sensor.

Pool Clown,

Just wanted to share another observation and see if you have encountered that phenomenon and if it means anything in the troubleshooting arena ......

The Error codes are not present all the time and most of the time, based on the LCD, it acts like the system is running okay, except, I have only seen the "power" LED on all the time and occasionally the "cell reversing" LED is lit. The word "wait" is on most of the time.

Since my problems began, I have not seen any other LED lit.

Mean anything???

Thanks a lot.

Pool Clown,

Received my sensor yesterday and installed it today .....

A few observations that might be of interest.

For the first 5 minutes or so the Power and Cell Reversing LEDs were lit, exactly the same as with the old sensor in the system.

A little panic set in that the sensor was not the cause.

Than the amber "Service" LED lit up followed by the 172 and (a new) 181 code.

Little panic turned into major panic.

I pressed the salinity button and after a few seconds, the Cell Reversing light went off and the Flow and Cell On LEDs lit up.

I have checked several times today and looks like it is working.

Will check tomorrow to see if the system is producing chlorine.

Still puzzled as to why the Service lights and the 172/181 codes came on for a brief moment.

Anybody have any explanation?

Thanks........
