hrustar
Okay, I've gone back and forth on the bromine vs. chlorine issue, and can't seem to settle on one (although I seemed to be tempted by bromine). Anyhow, with no clear answer to be had, I've decided the majority must be right. So I'm wondering what the majority of hot tub users in here use. For the first time in my life, I've decided to run with the lemmings (So to speak). I'd also like to know if you have an Ozonator installed, and if that effects your choice in any way. For the record, I will have an ozonator. Just waiting for shipment in a couple of weeks. THANKS FOR PLAYING ALONG. THIS WILL REALLY HELP. Nitro
No one (or poll) on here can decide which method is right for you. The only way to know for sure is to try both of them. I suggest trying one for a few months then switch, and try the other.
hrustar
Nitro, as the expert in Chlorine (I mean that with respect, not sarcasm), let me ask you this. Why is their such a debate? it seems one method should be clearly superior in terms of ease and effectiveness. The cost to me seems fairly equal. Chlorine appears to be the standard. But the only advantage I see is it's slightly less costly and no bromine smell. Bromine seems to be used by fewer people, but requires less work/daily upkeep. I'm not lazy, but I to have a life to live and we do go away on a lot of weekends. However some people say it's tougher to balance water when using bromine. Then again, it seems bromine works better with Ozonators which I'll have. In short, this whole topic drives me nuts. Too many variables, not enough clear reasons why. I'll probably try both, starting with chlorine and moving towards bromine (since you can't move the other way without changing water). Here is what I project for our use. My wife and I will use it frequently (5 times a week or so). Kids (5 and 7) will join us a couple times a week. Our Nanny, maybe once every other week. So a total of 5 bathers as regular users. For my wife and nanny's sake, i want to make things simple. Details tune them out. That's why i had to buy a Harmony universal remote. Nitro
Here's my opinion. Think of Chlorine as being a manual (stick shift) transmission, and Bromine as being an Automatic. You have more control of the Chlorine level, and Bromine is more like set it and forget it. If you plan on using the tub often, Chlorine might work for you well. OTOH, if you plan on leaving your tub for long periods (over a week) unattended, Bromine might be the better choice. Some peope use Chlorine in the summer, and Bromine in the winter. I'd say try Chlorine now, then on your next water change, try Bromine. OR get a Salt Water Chlorine Generator and get the best of both worlds.
