gcaLuna13
Hi All, After my tub was completely drained for repairs, my wife accidentally cleaned the tub with windex to get rid of some build-up. Question: Will this small spray amounts of windex have a toxic reaction with the chlorine tabs in the tub even with the tub completely full of water again? Do I really need to dump the water? Or will a few days of Chlorine win the battle, making it safe to go in? Thanks, Luna13
chem geek
It should not be toxic, but the ammonia in Windex will react with chlorine and register as Combined Chlorine (CC) for a short-time. Chlorine will break it down in a matter of an hour or so. Just add chlorine and if the Free Chlorine (FC) drops, add some more until it starts to hold and keep the cover off until that happens. The other contents of Windex are detergents, fragrance, alcohol and some dye, none of which are a problem, especially in the small amounts that were likely used.
