Need Advice For Base Of Hot Tub

Recommended Posts

I plan to move my hot tub over about a foot in my back yard to accomodate a trailer I just bought.

Anyway, the tub is currently sitting on the sidewalk blocks. (the ones that are 2 X 3 feet or so). And these blocks just sit on the ground. The ground isn't exactly 100% level and we have some plywood sheets underneath one side of the tub to level it out a bit.

Since I have to move it, I was trying to get advice as to anything better to put underneath it.

One sales guy recommended building a little base out of pressure treated 2 X 4's. The base can be shimmed down to make it level once it sits on the ground, and the hot tub on top of that.

Also, I'm hearing gravel may be a good idea as well.

What are some people's thoughts? Is the 2 X 4 base I good plan? What would work best? or what should I not do?

by the way, I live in Western Canada, so we get ALL types of weather, including snow.

thanks

I didn't want to put concrete in when we got our spa so I built a base out of pressure treated 2 X 6, with plywood covering it. That has worked well and it only took me a few hours to make it. I leveled it by putting some legs down to the ground and a good support in the middle to take the weight. That has worked well for over a year.

The only thing is that the 2 X 6 frame raises it about 6" off the ground. But you can paint it and make a deck or whatever else strikes you.

Good Luck,

Greg

Build a sandbox out of 2x4s and fill it w/ pea gravel...drains well, levels itself out.

Man, how simple and effective is this

I am putting my hot tub on a composite deck material called Ever Grain, its like Trek. Anything I should be concerned about?

By the way, the deck support is mega beefed up, so its structurely sound, just checking in the decking material.

Thanks
