Jim T.
I'm brand new to pools. We just got a concrete in-ground pool installed and filled this past Tuesday. At some point, one of the pool company's reps told my wife that we won't be able to swim for 2 weeks b/c we have to brush down the plaster on the walls and that puts lye into the water, which is bad, especially for little girls. On the other hand, the pool company guy that came out to show us how to work the equipment and deal with the chemicals pretty much laughed out loud at that. He said if we're really worried about the kids, have them shower afterward and don't let them swallow the water. I went in yesterday - tasted fine, smelled fine, felt fine. I think we're good to go. My wife, however, can't get this lye thing out of her head. I looked around the 'net today to see if I could find anything and I couldn't. Does anyone see any credence to this lye issue? Thanks in advance.
