2002 Gulf Coast Heater Goes Out

Recommended Posts

I have a 2002 Gulf Coast Spa. The heater is shutting off, seemingly with big temperature swings--twice pre day in a MN spring!!!

We notice a line of dots blinking across the LCD control panel when the heater is out. The pump continues to run as if in the heating cycle, but the temp drops. I can short-term fix by resetting the GFCI. GFCI has a history of tripping in high humidity, but hasn't for over a year. I replaced the pump and motor 3 months ago; that is working fine. Heater works well otherwise.

Help! I'm sick of jumping into a 70deg tub!!!

next time the dots are flashing open up the pack and look for a glowing red light , if the light is on your high limit is tripping , check for ubstructions in the filter and first pump and the heater tube , make sure your gate valves are open , next thing to check would be the pressure switch , but usually the pressure switch doesn't reset on this model

3 flashing dots usually means a flow error, as said check everything that could restrict flow, filters, pressure switch, pump ect. We have seen a couple of Gulf Coasts in the field that everything was fine and they were still haveing the issue you areand they had to replace the control system(thye lucked out, it was under warranty still!) When you reset the tub, is the tub reading the tempreture of the water correctly? IE the topside reads 90 and the tub is actually 90 or is it reading incorrectly?

The temperature is reading correctly after a reset. The setting is at 95 (default?), but the reading is accurate.

Thanks for your help. No problems today (of course!) but I'll check the pack for a red led. Flow doesn't seem to be obstructed... I've tried a new filter and checked all the jets. I also checked all the plumbing while the pump was out. Any other thoughts on an obstruction location? While we're at it, anyone know of a good deal on a new control system?!

Thanks all!
