  1. When I get a LF error on my hot tub I remove the filters completely. Usually some leaf remnants or other crud is obstructing the water flow. If your tub is clean it should be fine running this way for a quick test. Check for anything blocking the water flow with the filters removed, and the error should be gone as well. If that area is clear then the filters could be the issue. If the error remains even with the filters off then I have no idea what it could be? I've gotten this error multiple times over the years. My problem is due to the filters are too clogged up or there is something blocking the water from flowing past the filters. Good luck!
  2. There is also the Mineral Stick method. I just put a mineral stick in the filter, and use non-cholinated shock after each use. If the water gets cloudy or tinted, I just toss in some dichlor. Thinking about switching to chlorine as the mineral stick doesn't seem to work that great for me with only non-chorinated shock. Always tests low on MPS, gets green tint, and needs to have dichlor added. A chart that I used once upon a time: http://www.spadepot.com/spacyclopedia/hot-tub-sanitizer-comparison.htm
  3. I recently got a pool from CL for free. It is an Esther Williams Summit 15'x24' oval pool. It is fully disassembled and sitting in my backyard ready to be installed next season. It is about 5 years old, and in great shape. It has a deck and railing safety system. Looking around I am unable to find the original price of this type of pool? Is this an elite pool? With a new liner and professional install is it safe to assume at least another decade of use? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!
  4. I don't think the clip-on will work because it is for PVC on PVC type connections. PVC cement makes a chemical reaction that welds PVC material together where it cannot be separated. The bottom of your problem is not PVC. Try to find the manual, get the correct replacement part, and install it correctly. It looks like a DIY and I'm sure people here can walk you through the fix.
  5. There are soleniods on the lines just after the compressor, so the compressor never runs while the lifts are down once the shut-off pressure is reached. Air compressor -> one air hose line -> air line splitter = Line A+Line B Line A -> solenoid -> tv lift Line B -> solenoid -> air line splitter -> First air Line: Speaker Lift #1. Second air line: Speaker Lift #2 The leak is after the solenoids, so the compressor never loses pressure while the lifts are off. The solenoids prevent the air from leaking. When you use the lift button that opens the solenoid and allows the air to pass through it. So, I am positive that the leak is past the connected solenoid on the speaker lift lines. I am not sure if it is the lines, connections to the lift system, or the lift system itself that is leaking air. =========== extra knowledge ================ If you don't know what a solenoid is, this is what controls the lift system on my spa. Simple example: Compressor -> solenoid -> Lift The solenoid is connected to the control panel. In the "off" state the solenoid is 'closed' and stops air from flowing through it. When you press a button the solenoid is given power which opens up the inner chamber to allow air to pass through it which in turn lifts the speakers. When you press the button again the power to the solenoid is stopped, it closes cutting off the air flow, and the air pressure in front of it is released so that the speakers go back down.
  6. My spa has a speaker lift system which is controlled by an air compressor. Push a button and the speakers rise out of the tub. Push it again and they go back into the hot tub. I also have a TV lift system that works the same way. My air compressor has auto shut-off at 125 PSI and starts back up at 95 PSI. If I lift the TV - no problems. When I lift the speakers the pressure drops below 75PSI and the air compressor runs non-stop. I would like to find the leak so that the air compressor isn't running the entire time that the speakers are lifted. Any tricks to finding the leak besides spraying soapy water on the lines. I tried that and it didn't work for me. No luck finding the leak. Any clue if a pressure regulator will work for me? I only need 40PSI to lift the speakers and TV. Will a pressure regulator make the compressor pressure reach the shut-off point of 125PSI while only putting out 50-60 PSI to the equipment? Or does a pressure regulator bleed air so that the compressor will never reach the cut-off point and continue to run non-stop? Thanks!
  7. Some more ideas on this link http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11150
  8. We used our hot tub for the first time in a few wekks last night. Kids got in, I ran to grab something in the house. Come back out, the kids are standing in the tub freaking out. Behind one of the headrests a bajillion or so ants decided that was a good nesting spot. I got the kids out and spashed the ants with the water. Spent the next 20 minutes skimming dead ants from the hot tub. Removed the headrest and cleaned it off. Guess who will be opening the hot tub cover weekly and checking for bugs before getting in from now on... this guy! That was a first, and hopefully a last - yuck
  9. Just remember that what you save in the short term will cost you in the long term. Make sure you get something well insulated and energy effecient or you'll be paying for it every month when your electricty bill comes, especially during the winter. Good luck!
  10. Let's just say it may be required, but I may have skipped that step for my installation. I have done a ton of home improvements and have yet to get a permit for any of them. They are mainly for when you sell your property so the buyers know everything was done to code. PS - I only hire people that I know and trust. Make sure that everything is done correctly!!!
  11. I'd recomend not avoiding one model because a silly customer didn't follow common sense directions and hurt herself being foolish.
  12. I look forward to hearing your story... assuming your account doesn't mysteriously get locked and all of your threads deleted. Congrats! Moving my used hot tub to my house was far from easy, and it took a team of pro movers all day to accomplish the feat. Hope you have a pro to do the electrical!
  13. For the record, I did my Spa turned-off testing in the SUMMER. I agree, don't turn it off until it is above freezing outside to see how much electricity you use without it.
  14. Do you know how to read your electric meter? Read it and write down the results over a few days and you can guestimate if it is your spa. Check the meter at the same time each morning for a few days and write down the results. Start at say 8am each morning. Write down the number. Next day, same thing - don't change anything in your routine. Day 3, turn off your spa for a day exactly at 8am. Day 4, write down the number and turn your spa back on - it shouldn't have lost enough heat to freeze in only 24 hours (don't take my word for it but I doubt a spa can drop from over 100 to freezing in 24 hours). Turn the spa back on. Give it a day to heat up again. Day 6, put your spa in economy mode. After a few days you should be able to tell how much electricity the spa is using based on usage results comparing when it is off vs being on vs econeomy mode. I did this for weeks on end when I first got my spa. Eventually I could see that leaving my spa on in the winter cost me like $3-4 a day. $3-4x30=$90-120/month to run the spa in the winter. In the summer it drops to like $1.50-2/day. My spa is old and not very energy efficient. Since then I only run it in economy mode in the winter and turn it on normal on days I plan on using it. Example of my results: no spa (turn off) - house uses about 20 kWh/day spa on normal 101 degrees - 50 kWh/day (so the spa used 30kWh @ $.1/kWh = $3 day) spa on economy 101 degrees - 40 kWh/day (spa used 20kWh = $2 day, saving $1 each day)
  15. The same exact thing happened to me. I was "nickels55" and that mysteriously got banned for no reason and all of my posts deleted. I emailed the mod multiple times, tweeted my issue, and never heard back. I don't expect to have my issue resolved so here I am with a new username. Here's hoping this one doesn't get banned and deleted for no reason.
