  1. Ahh the age old open on Sunday question! I deal with this all year, During the busy pool season being open on Sunday is a no brainer! After 4th of July when things die down is tough. However we opened this past Sunday because of it being tax free weekend and I sold 2 Marquis Spas! I always talk to my team and say "when do you think most people want to shop for a hot tub?" well I would say the weekend. Here is the big problem for most companies....most a small mom and pop shops that have a full service center and a maybe even a construction divsion, by the time Sunday comes around they have already worked 60 hours and they want a day off. THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE. Right now for me it is a problem of finding and training sales people who can educate and sell tubs effectively. That may or may not be what your are experiencing. Even with all those factors I agree that we as dealers do have crappy hours and need to be open on Sundays. Also a if the tub is on the floor there should be no reason other than laziness that they can't get another one running for you within 24 hours. I tell people give me a day or 2 notice and I can have any one of my floor models running for a wet test. As a Marquis dealer I would try to give them another chance as they are a beautiful and well made tub.
  2. Coast Spas when I used to sell them used huge Franklin motors that were originally designed for gas pumps. It looked impressive and made their vanishing edge tubs run awesome, but ya the vanishing edge models are energy hogs. You can turn the filter cycles down to 2 2hr cycles and be fine I am sure which will help a lot. I wonder if they still use those big 7hp franklins like they did when Coast Spas first came out?
  3. Ya this would not be good for customers. Experienced pool and spa techs are already few and far between, every year we try to take on some new guys to train and it is hard in a seasonal business to have the money to train before the busy seasons. I have been doing this for 12 years, my brother 20 and his partner 25 if the state is going to tell us we have to be licensed then we will fight it. We already have contractors licenses and CPO for commercial and we are insured? This isn't Cali or FLA we are a seasonal business, it does not make sense, Just good old Taxachusetts overreaching again!
  4. Marquis was supposed to be one of the first companies installing it on their spas but they are pushing it back until next year apparently, something about inventory. The microsilk has been used in the high end bath industry for a few years and now Balboa seems to be taking to the hot tub guys. The only thing I know is what I have been told from the Marquis reps and the videos you can find on youtube. It is basically a secondary motor with lots of impellers that chop up air molecules. You spa will turn milky white , but it is just air bubbles. Marquis had it running on a couple of show models, and from everyone who i've talked to you can feel a difference. My problem is with the cost....you will be paying around $2,000 extra to have this system installed on a new spa. I could see dealers adding it in at maybe $1600-$1800. But only the biggest dealers who inventory dozens of spas will risk setting one up on the floor. I think a lot of smaller dealers (like me) who can only have 6-8 tubs on the floor won't be willing to order one in for wet test so it will be hard for consumers to try out. I am no Doctor but the science seems sound regarding its benefits, just not sure how the cost/benefit ratio is.
  5. Out in the field we use muriatic acid to clean salt cells. I have not looked into what the problem with using PH down is but the chemical in PH down is 'SODIUM Bisulfate' and maybe that reacts with the salt already in the system in a negative way. We have always been told to use liquid acid but other than that I am not sure what the issue is with it but I know plenty of people who probably do and will look into it.
  6. Covering the liner poping out of the tracking should be covered for the first year, that is what we do anyway. However, nothing a pool company does when installing a new liner can prevent or predict what a ground water swell will do. If ground water came up and floated the liner, it doesn't matter if they put new foam in it would have done the same thing. Now if there was a history of ground water issues at your site the installer should have recommended things it could do to help that situation. Like someone said above see what limits are in their warranty.
  7. We charge our weekly service customers $75/week PLUS chemicals. You can not determine what you will need no matter what size the pool is. We bill at the end of each month for the service, my techs are supposed to leave behind a slip every week noting what chemicals were added so when they get their bill they are not surprised. Everytime we have tried to included chems we feel we loose money. - just wanted to add we are looking to raise our weekly rate to $95 as we are very busy with weeklys and think we could get that in MA/NH
  8. I think it would be too bad if D1 was sold to a big company like Jacuzzi or an outside investor. I started my career selling D1 at the largest dealer in the Northeast, the thing I liked about selling them was we actually met with and knew the guys running the show, they made us feel like we were part of something. When we went on our own to start a new pool company I would have loved to take D1 with me and would still love to sell that line if we could. I think this may be just rumor as well because D1 has a good thing going with the way they are set up.
  9. Somebody was thinking! When using a spare pool pump that probably take no time at all to drain/dill! I am sure the customer likes the fact that you are not wasting their water as well.
  10. Hi all, new guy to the forum...12 years in the biz so I hope I can be of some help. As a dealer who just signed up with Marquis I can comment on the Celebrity Hot Tub line vs the 545 Eseries. 1. I ordered all my Eseries with full foam as we are in Massachusetts and it gets cold...from a dealer perspective the upgrade is not that much more $$$ wise. @mix2pix the price you were given seems to be without full foam add in FF for $200 their new 2013 shell molds are beautiful and they are trying to make the eseries like a second high end line. When the dealer adds foam and ozone I think it comes close without spending $9k for a 7x7 like their signature series. 2. The Celebrity Hot Tubs line is made by Marquis. They basically used the old 2011-2012 eseries molds, took away color choices and don't add insulation...you can't even order it! This is a price point line only. The molds are nice, their base equipment pack is decent as well as their base LED lighting. But if you had to choose between the Hollywood in the Celebrity line or the 545? If you have the extra $1500-1800 go for the Eseries, it is more than worth it.
  11. Glad to be apart of the poolspaforum...hope I can help
