  1. Well all. I said that I would place another post once I received my new Coast Spa. PS.. It is the Freedom 55..with 55 being the number of jets. So let me tell you the good, and the bad. I received a call a week ago this past Friday, where they left me a message that my tub had arrived. (the same week they initially told me it would - Good. Unfortunately I was away on vacation, and called them back after hours to let them know to call me on the Monday. Whe we spoke, they indicated that they could deliver and install the spa on Monday.....unfortunately the following week, as they were completely booked up. I gently complained, and let them know that I was still on vacation and would greatly appreciate if they could do something for me that week. Perhaps about 30 minutes later, they called and told me they moved some scheduling around, and I would have my tub on Wednesday - Good. The guys came to install and setup the tub, placed it where we desired...moved some of the wiring - good.. we began to fill the tub, and they added the first set of chemicals. ZThe tub was about half filled, and the guys were about to leave..THEN I noticed that there was water around the edge of the tub.. lagged them back, and they began to look for the issue. Apparently one of the main fittings was not on correctly, and they could not tighten it.. UMMMMM... - Not so good. But they got right on the phone with the shop, and made the arrangements to have one of the techs come out. I received a call 20 minutes later, that they had someone on the way. Within an hour or so, it was fixed. Apparently, the fitting was not seated properly, or something. It was an easy fix.. so I was glad.. though I would think a proper wet test may have caught it. My opinion.. I am fine with this..My dealer was very good and accomodating, and they still owe me a visit to move the antennea for the radio, such that I have better reception. About the tub - It rocks...Steroe is great..flow is great..volcano feature and waterfall is awesome...and all the lighting is quite cool. All in all. I am please with my Coast Spa thus far.. Cheers
  2. I think it really depends on the AMP of the motors. From the Coast perspective, the 5HP, (though some will say it is less than that), it requires a 50 AMP with a GFCI breaker. Note, you also need a disconnect around 15 feet from the tub. Coast also has a 7HP, and I believe a 4HP. Perhaps you are looking at the 4HP pump. Either way, the dealer should stipulate the required breaker size before you purchase the tub. Their warranty is pending the proper wiring installation as well. Not a big deal, but just make sure they provide you the information. WHat I am finding is the cost of the electrician is damn high.. (I am in the wrong business).. I am north of Toronto, and had prices so far ranging from 1400.00 - 1700.00. Note that includes about a 100' run, but I bought my own 50 AMP GFCI outdoor box.. Ouch...
  3. You are indded correct. By having the filter separate is supposed to allow you to change the filter "without" all the crap going back into the tub. That is why they have designed it that way. As I mentioned before, I am sure that all products may have flaws..depending on who assembled them and whether they like their job or not. Hmmmm..did anyone say Toyota? The bottom line to me is that there are a lot of good manufacturers, BC, Coast, Jaccuzi, Dynasty etc..however as long as your dealer is reputable and you believe that they are there to help, then you cannot go to wrong. PS.. the comment about the waterfall above...dude, it is cool. I actually looked at a similiar feature, however I found the seating not as comfortable as the Freedom Luxury from Coast..and btw, the one I purchased, (waiting on delivery), has 2 smaller waterfall features. I agree that why..but for my two kids, I think they will like it...the other feature is the vulcano jet at the bottom...should give them some fun. So in close..do your research, its a big investment, look for the features you need/want, and a good dealer.. and have fun. I will report back when I get mine and let you know. Oh..ps..get a few a quotes on the electrical, they can vary greatly in price...and see my previous post about the 50AMP GFCI from Home Depot..it is a steal.. Cheers...
  4. When your burying cable for your spa you always jam extra wire for a 110V circuit. At least I do. Maybe that's what's in there. Could be. I'll know when I open it up. In case it's not and I decide to leave it like it is, is there any harm in upgrading the circuit to 60amp? I'll be buying a 60amp GFI disconnect and I have #6 wire running only about 40'. It seems all I would have to do is replace the breaker in the main panel to 60amp. Would that be a problem for the spa? If you are looking for a 50AMP GFI / outdoor box check out Home Depot GE 50 Amp Spa Panel with GFI . Typically 250.00 here in Canada, however in the US store its 49.95. I think a great deal. I just picked one up. Model # UG412RMW250P Internet # 100686230 Store SKU# 649039
  5. I think you can find faults in any manufacturer, however when you look at the number of tubs sold and the problem %, I think Coast is a relatively good brand. Living in Canada one of the things that I looked for was the "full" insulation, and Coast does a good job on that. I honestly cannot give a good or bad recommendation on Coast, as I am awaiting delivery on the Coast that I just purchased. The reseller I dealt with in Mississauga was extremely knowledgeable on the product and his competition, though he did not bash anyone. As well, I had the store (in business over 25 yrs under the same name - IMPORTANT, gave me a written 5 full yrs on components (which are typically prorated yr 4 and 5). I am hoping that I made the right purchasem and so farm I feel good about the money I laid out.
  6. Hi all, congrats on your purchase of the BC. You know it is all very confusing when looking for a Hot Tub. I am a first time buyer, and in fact made my decision yesterday and laid out my deposit. Before I tell you the decision, here are a few things that I think I learned over the course of my decision making. 1. There are a lot of good tubs out there, as well as many on the dark side. 2. When making a decision, you really need to look at at the options that you NEED, and then those that you want, and then look at the cost delta and determine your comfort level of purchase. 3. DO your research.. now threads like these are great, however are often misleading. How many people take the time to say how much like they like something..well few in comparision to the people that have encountered a problem and are looking for either assistance, or need to vet their frustration and do some bashing. 4. Warranty. Wow.. you really need to look at the "fine print".. where some dealers say..hey do not worry about it, its all covered, the manufacturer may have you with a lot less coverage than you think, and by the way, if you want it fixed, you may have to send it across the continent, on your dime. 5. The dealer...you need to be comfortable with the dealer/store.. Remember, they are going to be the ones looking after you at the end of the day. Ok.. this is all basic. I looked at a number of spas, and spoke with friends of mine that had them..well that did not help to much as they have all had good experiences thus far, from Artic, Beach Comber, Coast, etc. excluding the Costco models which had a good entry price however the operating costs seemed to be very high. I was alomst sold on the Dynasty Caspian model. It had all the Bells and whistles I wanted, and the sales person told me about the excellent warranty. Sounded great.. I then contacted the manufacturer, who sent me the warranty coverage information, and low and behold.. there was pro-rating for years 4 and 5, (though this is pretty typical), as well as the fact that I may have to ship my unit to the US for repair? Damn I live near Toronto. When I questioned the sales person, who seemed on the up and up... I could not get an answer. So.. long and the short.. I like BC, however with the options I wanted..it was $$$$, so I dropped by a Coast Spa dealer, who has been in business at the same location for a number of years (20ìsh). The sales person took the time for me to ask all the questions, sit in all the tubs, and then when I was ready, discuss the price. I asked to see the warranty information, and though it was stated, again pro-rated, the store provided me with the written warranty of 5 yrs on all parts, with he exception of the radio..(1yr), and the lifetime on the shell (30yrs)...you can read the details. So for me.. there was a trust established..(hope it holds true), pretty good reports on Coast, though every manufacturer has issues, and a price that I could live with.. (expecting deliver over the next 4-5 weeks).. Cheers
