  1. Ok thanks for the help, back in the tub the floater goes
  2. I have tried 2 types: Spazzaz Crystals - good but works out expensive as you have to put a lot in 2-4 heaped cap fulls but it didnt seem to effect my water in any way Liquid based - I cant remember the name, this was very good as you only needed a little bit and you got lots of aroma but it did clog my filters up a lot
  3. I see what you are saying but surely it is no worse than an inline bromine feeder?
  4. As said, it depends on how your spa controller behaves. On mine I can set the filtration (circ pump) time from 0-24 hours but it will still activate it for heating if required even if set to 0 It also depends on how much water you circ pump shifts per min if it is a really small pump you may need to have it on a lot to get the required level of filtration.
  5. Ok thanks Richard. That all seems to make sense. I think I will try knocking it down 30mins at a time and see how it goes. My spa pack splits the filtration time over the whole 24 hours eg 4 hours would be 10 mins each hour so I shouldn't have too many issues with circ.
  6. Hi Richie, I am in the UK and its ture new spa's are vastly over priced here. If I were to do what you are looking at, I would have a look on ebay for a 2nd hand tub or even a shell you can refurb you should be able to pick up one quite cheap, they come up quite often and it would save you a lot of time in the long run. failing that you can pick up a decent quality new spa if you avoid the main players for about £2k-£3k as I did. http://www.spaworldonline.co.uk/products/h...bs/jubilee.aspx or http://www.leicesterhottubhire.co.uk/buy-hot-tubs.html
  7. Hi All, I know in pools people say you should have x amount of turnover. In spas it seems to be more you need to filter for x hours a day. Why is this? I have worked out: My circ pump is 150l per min it is on for 4 hours a day: 150 x 60 x 4 = 3600 my tub is ~1200L so therefore my water is being turned over 30x a day. This seems a lot? can I cut this down, I have no issues with water quality and I use the tub a lot. I know this circ pump is bigger than a lot of smaller circ pumps fitted to spas.
  8. I have been looking in to these recently. My main concern is that they will not provide enough sanitation during use. As it says in some of the spa pilot info: So it would seem that you need to shock the tub before and after this must surely negate quite a bit of the cost savings of such a system?

  10. My tub has a drain valve im not sure if it is blocked but I only get a slight trickle im sure it would take about 3 days to empty that way. The best thing to do as Dave said is chuck 2/3/4 lengths of hose pipe in and syphon it out. then I use a tub to scoop the last bits out and a towel to get the final dregs.
  11. I love the lights in mine, it is a big part of the tub for me. It does 30 different colours apparently and a few different modes, FADE, SWITCH, PARTY etc and has about 5 brightness settings and you can change all the timings etc. The only way it could be better is if I had more than 1 light in the tub as the way it is placed is at a funny angle and doesn't totally light up the whole tub
  12. I was thinking of building a system based on this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PH-ORP-REDOX-CONTROL...alenotsupported using the ORP value to control a solenoid to pump the water through an inline bromine feeder when needed and also use the PH side of things to up the PH when needed with a peri pump. I decided in the end that the maintenance using bromine isnt really that much of a chore and it wasn't worth bothering.
  13. I know you shouldnt put tablets directly in the skimmer but is it ok to put a small floater with bromine tablets in the skimmer?
  14. I have found somewhere that sells it in the UK: http://www.swimmingpoolchemicals.co.uk/pro...products_id=530 and their unbranded chemicals seem to be a little cheaper so im going to give it a go.
  15. Ok thanks for the info guys I will try the crushing route
  16. Hi all, I have finally got my new tub and it is fitted with a UV lamp not to be mistaken with a uv ozone generator. It is the kind of thing used on ponds and fish tanks and at water treatment plants. Without removing the bulb I cant tell the wattage but on the controller it says 10w-16w Basically it doesn't give off ozone all killing etc is done as the water passes the bulb. There is a lot of hype and misinformation about. So is this system better than ozone? or should I add an ozone generator? What kind of effect will this have on an bromine spa?
  17. Hi Everyone, I read in Waterbears guide that you should add sodium bromide on a fresh fill if using tablets in a feeder. Sodium bromide seems to be difficult to come by in the UK and I cant find anywhere else telling you that you need to dose it before using tablets. I understand that if you don't you are relying on the chlorine in the tabs for a short period but how long are we talking, days, weeks? I have never added sodium bromide on start up with my current tub, I just open the tab feeder to full for the first couple of days and I have never had a problem. Is this something I need to worry about?
  18. Ok I see what you are saying thanks I have always used bromine in a floating feeder, I may try switching to the granulated method and see how it goes.
  19. Hi Craig, Im kind of new to all this but quite hands on. I have found this site brilliant for finding your way around a hot tub: http://spasupport.com/ It sounds like quite a lot of the kit you have is quite old and probably more for commercial spa/pool use and probably even past their best. It might be worth using the shell and re plumbing with a new spa pack and pumps? Sorry I cant be more help P.s can you post some pics up?
  20. Thanks Roger, Thats what I had feared, I am thinking I might build a PH and ORP controller to manage the PH and the bromine levels. I think it will cost about £200 all in which is a lot cheaper than off the shelf controllers but I keep coming back to the point of is it really all worth it for a 1200L hot tub?
  21. Hi Everyone, Im new here been reading for a while, I currently have a Spa in a box but I now have a new Monarch Spa on order. I am thinking of adding an automatic bromine dispenser to the new tub such as: http://www.backyardcitypools.com/chemicals...hlorinators.htm the only question I have is on the Monarch Spa there is no 24x7 circ pump, it has an independent circ pump but you have to set how many hours a day you want it to run, can I use an automatic dispenser with such a system? are these systems pretty hassle free?
