  1. Closing is quite simple before you close your pool bring your levels up on the higher side then bring your pool to winter level. add your stain prevent solution wait 20 add your 40% 60% algecide wait 20 then add your shock wait 30 then cover. The main thing you need to do is have your pool balanced properly before you close and only adding the winter kit after the pool level is brought down.
  2. The point also is that jmtf is filling his pool probably with untreated or unfiltered well water. Also when you follow a good proven plan from a dealer your costs remain down in the long run. You may pay more in the start of the plan but if you dont have a good procedure you spend all kinds of money listening to people saying you should buy this and buy that and that will fix your problem then you have just wasted a week or so and money fighting the pool when a proactive approach would have you enjoying the pool.
  3. Why are you talking about stablizer levels in hot tubs especially when you are using small amounts of dichlor this isnt a pool completely different forms of use the only way anyone should be concerned about cya levels is if they are using pucks or granules in a stable form from pools or using trichlor which shouldnt be used. Your name might be chem geek but you should really learn more than what you find in research and theory Just because someone stated the got itchy from their tub doesnt mean its bc of cya there could have been many factors such as improper sanitation on the perimeter of the tub, lack of shocking, unbalanced water.... I have 10yrs of of relevant hot tub and pool chemistry experience and have given seminars at my stores. Whats your experience in the industry???
  4. if you are using dichlor you do not need bleach when you first fill your tub you will "shock" the water to kill any organics or bacteria in the water. which is usually about 26-30grams of dichlor after about 6 hours you should have residual chlorine reading this is where you will adjust if you have to add any dichlor at all most people using this method just add 1 tablespoon or teaspoon after they are done using. Then a shock once a week with your MPS to get rid of any organics in the water. Do not use bleach at all
  5. you havent said if you have changed filters or even cleaned it with solution the one you have been using. Mustard algae is yellow not green and it would be everywhere. Lets simplify this 1) clean your filters 2)Go to a pool store and buy some shock 3) if your pool is still green buy a small bottle of 40% to 60% algecide the stuff from wallmart wont cut it. 4) get all of your levels balanced ie. calcium hardness, Alk & ph. 5) Add algecide 6) wait 2 hours 7) shock pool let circulate for 12 hours. 8) vacuum pool 9) clean filter again 10) rebalance pool and let circulate. If you pool is no longer green but cloudy use a floculant and that will take down the suspended particles. My suggestion to combat your algae problem and to have your pool running smoothly is to buy chlorine pucks with zinc oxide in them and use a non chlorine based shock get rid of the bleach and use a 40% to 60%algecide once a week for 2 months to let the bank of zinc build up than stop. The zinc in the pucks will build up a bank in your water and prevent any algae from growing what so ever. Everyone of my customers who follows this plan has never had a problem for 4 yrs running.
  6. I would really consider giving the hydropool swimspas another look they have been producing them for over 10 years. I have been in one before and it gives you more than enough power to exercise against. The reliability is great. I know the N Y Rangers and Mets Have them in their training facilities Also the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs have swim spas as well for Hydropool is based Just outside of T O
  7. It shows what a new and somewhat unbiased person to situations can do sometimes. Hope all goes well
  8. I didnt mean to come across as pointing fingers & I do know that yourself or chas are not afilliated with A But I have a question totally unrelated does Spasearch own this board??? or just pay for an affiliated link
  9. I dont think that thread should have been locked or Atali banned if that is true I thought the way it went around here was a warning then suspension of use then ban. I can see both sides sort of.... Atali is quite pissed and wants it to be known and hopes at least someone wont end up in his position from said dealer Then we have the board... I can see it being an issue of brining up old Arctic threads to post his issue(may have been a bit much but w/e) shoulda only resulted in a warning. I find it kinda funny that the mention of serious litigation this post gets locked and someone uses the right to post. No offense but a mod should be impartial and excuse themselves from threads pertaining to major issues of their company.
  10. Check the last post on the thread from our moderators including our Arctic rep here on the forum
  11. Nah, it got locked for too much Arctic bashing and I think he got banned???
  12. http://www.hydrospa.com/warranty.html All manuals and reference cards are on this screen
  13. Im surprised, you'd think we were talking about Calspas I can see this not going away. I dont see why the dealer & Arctic dont bite the bullet take the tub back replace the Jets and sell it as a demo and the customer will pay normal costs for removal and new install of tub or refund money less removal costs and sell as a demo. This is not that difficult
  14. Ill post a pic showing a cheap waterways version VS a higher end waterways version in a bit
  15. To outfit your newly acquired spa with synthetic will cost you more than I think your gonna want to spend. you can order from a dealer or some wood finishing store but it will cost you. I will guestimate around 600 - 800
  16. OK I was trying to make a point about quality the costco tubs made by hydrospa have lesser quality equipment like controls, relays, less layers of fibreglass backing, lesser quality foam, a cheaper type skirt and a bunch of other issues. They dress it up all shiny and nice so they can say hey its looks like a top end spa but will we'll give you a better price because we buy in bullk. Bulls#&t!!! Maybe this might make more sense a costco from hydro is like having a corvette only equipped with a used 4 cylinder engine, 8-track player, milk crate seats & 10" whitewalls. You can say you have a vette but how reliable will it be and is it really a vette???
  17. Korea my mistake but you miss the point completely So in your opinion cheaper is better. Tell me what a resale value of a 5 yr old Kia is compared to a similarly priced Nissan. Which vehicle would you want to own given the choice. You must love that all your manufacturing jobs in the US going to China India & Mexico so you can buy cheap.
  18. here's an analogy for you 3 brands KIA Nissan Infinity Soakerman are you going to tell me because a Kia is made in Japan and its a car but cheaper its as good as a Nissan or Infinity?? I dont think so will it last as long??? I dont think so An Infinity is the high end Nissan is the midprice to starter and the Kia is your costco tub Even an entry level Sentra is better built and will last longer than the Kia. Why??? Better components better company and corners are not cut just options left out to have a lower price unlike Kia.
  19. It was the same way when I was growing up but back then they only sold cheap things. It wasnt until Walmarts started popping up everywhere and killed the specialty sector by offering similar items at a majorly reduced price. You could also say that with the major gap between well off & middle to lower class incomes the bigger better deal comes more into play with less expendable income available. I consider myself lucky in my smaller city where it is mainly upper middle to high incomes where people still mainly want to deal with the specialty stores for high ticket items and service I rarely have to explain why my tubs are priced between 7 & 19 thousand and Home Depot tubs are the prices they are.
  20. you must check to see if the connections on your spa pack actually accepts 4 gauge wire I know our gecko Xm3 packs will accept 4 but its going to be tight on a newer Balboa board
  21. depending on the length between your disconnect box and the spa you can switch to 6 gauge
  22. I dont see why they wouldnt Leisure concepts is easy to deal with Your spa dealer can order how much of whatever they want whenever. Sure shipping might be a little more if they only want to carry lifters they can they dont have to carry all of the accessories if they dont want to.
  23. Jim says Hot Springs are over priced but yet he sells his Super Duper Spas for List $29,200 But on sale for ONLY $23,600 WOW you want to talk about ethics Jim buys his Phoenix Spas shells for probably around $1500 then lets say adds at most $2,000 in parts to the tub. So We are at $3500 cost for the tub now theres some overhead and misc lets add $1000 to be fair. That brings us to $4500 that this tub really costs now if you added mark up like a normal dealer the tub should retail for around $7,000 So someone selling an inferior product for 5x the cost that is what is wrong with the industry!!!!!
  24. I would really get the permit yourself have it inspected and dont pay for it until it passes inspection. Insurance is everything these days you are dealing with your main panel if the contractor screws up and you have nothing to say it was done properly you will be the one holding the bill to fix w/e went wrong
