  1. We have well water. we do not have a water softener. We generally have used Metal X on a new fill. What happens is that 2 days later we will end up with greenish water, and add more metaX and the next day the water is clear with the iron obviously accumulating on the microfilter. We changed the water last week. Did not have metal X and thus bought Bioguard pool magnet plus from the local spa dealer (not our usual spa product dealer, who was located to far away when we needed the product.) Added the PMP . So, now, one week later, the water remains clear, no evidence of metals out (never got green)..not even after 3 doses of dichlor. Microfilter is white. The hardness reads 50 on the test strip. The PMP is quite concentrated and we did add the recommended dose. can anyone tell me why such a difference in results with the bioguard vs metal x??
  2. Actually, after I add my initial chlorine dose, I am apt to see the iron, now that I think of it. i am not adjusting the alkalinity and ph before the initial chloination....
  3. Hello, We just took advantage of our January thaw in new England and did a water change in our Sundance Caprio. We usually use Metal X on initial water fill after the water has heated to at leaset 80 degrees. We ran out and went to our local chemical supplier (we usually drive an hour to our dealer, who uses MetalX, but no time to do that this time). The local supplier sells Bioguard Pool magnet Plus, which is much more concentrated than metal X. Generally, when we have used Metal X, we see immediate precipitation form the iron elements..this is obvious on our microfilter. Today, after using the Bioguard product I see no brown tinge at all on the microfilter. I am wondering if i used enough ..I put in 1 oz to my 350 gal tub. The recommended initial dose on the bottle is 32 oz per 10,000 gal (it is a pool product but recommended by the local spa dealer). Any thoughts? We do have well water and used a filter on the hose. we do not have a water softener. Maybeour iron level has changed?? Thanks for your thoughts
  4. 24 hours after 2nd shock..reads 0.5 , I don't get it ...sigh The CYA is rising...
  5. Not that i am an expert by any stretch but we use Metal X and that takes care of the problem. We also use the filter on the hose but still need metal X. We end up changing the micro filter about week later because it turns rust colored! But thats the end of it til the next fill
  6. Okay...shocked again..should be ready for Friday night use!
  7. Ok, reporting back here....24 hours after shocking to 10ppm, I got a reading of 3-5. that was this morning. Changed the microfilter today, had to add more metalX. 9 hours after the 3-5 reading , i tested again and reading 0. Do I shock again?? Thanks for the help
  8. Yes, ph 7.6 alk 100 we don't have a water softener but we fill the tub with a filter on the end of the hose. usually we go 2 rounds with metal x but this is the first fill we've done with needing a third. Will change microfilter today too.
  9. So....I put in the chlorine and it is reading 10ppm...I will wait the full 24 hours and check again. When i did test the water, I see green again. We do have well water with some iron..and i have added metal X twice so far..last time a week ago. I assume that the increase in green is minerals that have been outed by the large dose of chlorine that i had to use to get up to 10ppm. It it ok to add more metal X now while I am in the 24 hour holding pattern or shall I wait til the chlorine is stabilized?
  10. Thanks to both of you..Nitro, that does makes sense now.
  11. What am I doing wrong? New fill yesterday ph 7.6 Alk 100 FC about 5 no one used the spa today ph 7.6 alk 100 FC 0 should it be reading 0?? I would have thought that there should still be some in the water today thanks for your thoughts
  12. I have been using SpaBoss Chlor-aid for my sanitizer(I have been using all SpaBoss chemicals). I am really low on the product and unable to get to my dealer, about an hour away. there are local dealers with different brands. Can I switch to a different brand easily? Will I notice any changes?? One local dealer sells Baquacil..any thoughts?
  13. Just filled the tub for the season yesterday. Used Metal X twice ( 24 hours apart, 8 oz each time due to well water/minerals) adjusted alkalinity and ph, added sanitizer (reading is 5 ppm.) Any contraindications to getting into the tub 5 hours after using metal x and 3 hours after chlorine? Thanks
  14. What is the best way to keep the hot tub water clean when going away for a 3 week period of time if no one is available to sanitize it, without emptying it?? We use Nature 2, chlorine and an ozonator currently. Is there a time realease product or a product such as the chlorine sticks that pool owners may use, that will keep the pool sanitized over this time frame? tub is outdoors, northeast, thus winter temps. Thanks
