michiganpool Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 We have an inground fiberglass pool in Michigan, 11 years old, 12x24 in size, facing west. The sun has yellowed the white pool to the point it never looks clean, so we have researched professional DYI products to paint the pool. The problem is we aren't sure if we drain the pool completely (recommended by the paint manufacturer) if we'll create another problem with the pool lifting. The paint requires 7 days to cure properly. Another option would be to paint the pool only half way, creating a 2-tone effect, but the supplier thinks there could be a humidity problem with the paint being so close to the water line (even if it's dropped 2 ft. below the paint line.) How can I learn if we'll have a problem with hydrostatic pressure? Thx. Quote
waterbear Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 are you sure it is from the sun and not iron staining? Fiberglass pools are notorious for staining and it is easy to fix. Try this first: Go to the drugstore and buy a small bottle of plain vitamin C tablets (not fancy ones, not chewable, just the plain ones) and pout them into ah old white cotton sock. Tie up the sock and hold it on a stained area of the pool (under water) for about minute. You don't need to rub, just hold it on the stain. IF the stain lifts or lightens it is most likely an iron stain and not ywllowing form the sun. Good new is it easy t removed from the entire pools surface with ascorbic acid powder (vitamin C) and an HEDP based metal sequsstrant. Try this and report back. Quote
