Got My Taylor Kit Today

Just finished the first set of tests. Here is what I came up with

FC=2.5

CC=1.0

PH=7.7

TA=80ppm

Cacium Hardness=240ppm

CYA=40

So reading through the manual and a lot of posts here it seeem as if my CC is a bit high and possibly my CYA as well. It has been 2 weeks since I filled the tub and I have been using DiChlor so I think I will change over to the bleach method but I can't seem to find out how much bleach(oz's) to use daily? Any help or a link would be great.

Your calcium level is a bit high. According to the pool calculator, your CSI is 0.24. That could lead to scaling, especially in your heater.

You should consider dropping your pH to about 7.4.

What is the calcium level in your fill water?

If it is less than 170, you might want to consider draining and refilling.

Hey Quantum Thanks for the reply. I never have seen that site before. I plugged my numbers in and I got .19 for my CSI also In my taylor kit it reeds that calcium hardness of 240 is about normal. What do you think I should get it down to?

If I use a temperature of 97 F, I get a CSI of +0.19.

What temperature are you using?

Does this tub have any plaster or grout?

Are you using borates?

I've been using the dychlor/then bleach method for over three weeks now and still haven't found the right amount of bleach to use after each use - or daily - to leave a proper residual amount.

First, I'll say your numbers look ok. What does CC stand for?

Your FC is fine.

CYA is fine.

Your pH may be a tad high but add acid and that will lower both your pH and TA. Do it slowly.

The calcium hardness is on the high end of the scale I believe. Still in an acceptable range though.

OK, so now onto bleach as a sanitizer, and how much should you need.

All I can comment on is my own experience. My tub is small, 280 gallons, 1050 liters. I use my tub almost nightly, but if I need to average it say 5 of 7 nights a week. Say, for 30-60 minutes with 1-2 bathers. (OK, I perspire more then the norm). I have been adding 150 ml after a use and find the chlorine the next day at 1. If I don't use the tub the next day it's gone to 0. So I then started adding 200ml after a use. That only left residual of 0.5->1 for chlorine. The last few evenings I've added 200 + ml and although I don't use it every night the residual is almost gone.

So, I just added 300ml and it went from a subtle laundry basket smell to a more chlorine smell. The water looks and feels great though. The balance is perfect, ph=7.5, TA=80, Cya=60. The water balance is easy it's just keeping a residual chlorine amount that is hard.

I have been adding 1-2 tbsp of MPS 2-3 times a week to top it up. I also have a Nature2 in the filer (which I now think is bull$hit). So, average it out that is around 175 ml Clorox 6% bleach daily for 7 days on a 5 day usage.

General rule-of-thumb is to add 5 fluid ounces (~150 ml) of 6% unscented bleach for every person-hour of soaking, regardless of tub size. I'd start there and adjust such that there is residual free chlorine present (0.5 - 1.0 ppm) prior to your next soak.

So 30-60 minutes of 1-2 bathers is from 0.5 to 2 person-hours so 2.5 to 10 fluid ounces of 6% bleach which is around 75 to 300 ml of 6% bleach. The 150 ml is probably OK when one person is soaking up to an hour, but not enough for 2 people soaking for an hour.

MY temp is set at 100, there is no plaster or grout that I know of it is a 2002 Sundance optima. No I haven't used any borates. But I'm not sure what they are for really for either. I am only two weeks into being a tubber!! Funny thing is that when I brought my first sample into the local dealer last week they told me that my calcium was low (100 I think) and gave me increaser and a plan to raise it. I guess the plan worked a bit too well?
