Poolparrty Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 I recently purchased a home with pool and spa in Florida. It has been recommended that we replace the gas heater with a heat pump. There is also a solar heating system. My concern is that the heat pump will not have the ability to heat the spa when it gets to the cooler weather. Anyone else's experience would be great to hear. Heat pumps are made to maintain water temp. so yes it will not be able to heat your spa as fast as a gas fired heater. Gas heater is instanst heat beacuse of the burning tray and heat exchanger ect. The weather has no effect on them. heat pump uses the outside air temp to heat the water so if it cool out it will be less efficient. they do not really work well below 65. If you want to maintain water at certain temp all the time then a heat pump is the way to go, but it will take hours to heat a spa from 90 to 100 Quote
