Hello...I am wondering if it is possible to add coping (such as flagstone or other) after a fiberglass pool has been installed and a concrete deck poured). In other words, are you able to go back later (more than one year) and add coping if you leave the fiberglass exposed upon installation? Thank you in advance for your input.

Yes, you can go back later and add coping if the fiberglass is still exposed. But depending on what type of coping you want, you may need to pour a new concrete deck on top of the existing deck to meet the height of the new coping. You can use VASTEC USA's Cantilever Style Deck Forms For Fiberglass Pools and if your pool is off-level you can shim the coping to match the waterline. Or if you dont want to pour a completely new deck you could do something like this.

So yes, you still have options down the road.

You also have the option of flagstone. Since the best way to set flagstone around a pool deck is to set it on top of a concrete base, you will be in good shape to do that as well at a later date and time'

Great, both great responses. Thank you so much. The budget (which was enlarged to include a larger pool than originally planned) will not cover coping at the present, so it is great to learn this. I like flagstone, but I also like the picture of the concrete. I have probably looked at 6000 pool pics and have never seen that look before...but I like it. Don, I have a friend with stones around their pool and they are flush with the concrete...and it just looks...weird. So, I like what you said.
Had trees cut yesterday to prepare for my install, which should start October 6! Counting down the days.

Can anyone help me? My brick coping around my fiberglass pool is popping off and cracking. we want to replace the bad parts especially around the curves and steps is the worst. Any suggestions? What is the best adhesive. We have wire mesh attached to the fiberglass and that didn't seem to help. Someone said something about an epoxy maybe.

We see this problem with loose bricks and coping stones from time to time. It may be due to the pool flexing or it may be due to poor installation of the bricks, or just time taking it's toll on the adhesives used. There are other experts on this forum who can give you tips on how to reattach the bricks, I can suggest an alternate solution. You can remove all of the bricks, and install VASTEC USA's Coping For Fiberglass Pools and then pour a new stamped or stenciled concrete border like this:
