Walt Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 I'm planning on getting a fiberglass pool this spring. What is the better choice, Paver deck with bullnose coping or concrete / cantilever deck around a fiberglass pool? Concrete can cost from $5-$6 / sf. installed and extra for cantilever forms, while material for pavers can be $3 - $5 / sf. if self installed. It is my understanding that concrete is still needed under the rim of the fiberglass pool to help support. If alreading pouring concrete, it make sense to do the concrete deck? Can anyone help with pros and cons with each selection? Thanks, Walt in PA Quote
Casa de Melvin Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 I will be installing a San Juan Phoenix pool in about two months. I would also like to hear from and see pictures of paver decking and coping. I like doing the work myself if I can handle it. I just helped my neighbor with his 20x30 paver (6x6 tumbled pavers) patio and it was a very easy install. So again, those folks that went the way of pavers, any lessons learned would be greatly appreciated. FYI anyone in Charlotte area looking for an installer, San Juan Pools of Charlotte will be my supplier installer. Robert Fergione owner, checked BBB no complaints for 18months (that's as far back as the web-site says they report). Going to look at one of his installs next week. I'll post the results. Quote
lasik1 Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 We have brick paver coping on our gunite pool at our vacation home, and are currently(shell delivered today) installing a FG pool at our main residence. This time we are going with a cantilever deck in concrete, even though we have a paver driveway. The brick pavers are nice, but the mortar collects black mold and is starting to fail due to repeated sessions with the power washer and wire brush. In south Florida, our humidity can be extreme, hence the mold. I like the way the cantilever deck mimics the clean "drop in" sink look so prevalent in homes today, and with the "spray deck" finish we will be able to customize the deck color to our taste. I also am hoping for less maintenance. Quote
