Hot Spring GFCI trip after 30 sec jets pump is on.

Hi,

I have a 2012 Hot Spring Prodigy that been unused from some time for a recently bought house. The CFCI 20 amp breaker trips about 15 to 30 secs after the jet pump is turn on, the 30 amp breaker is still on. I have both the Power and the Ready light flashing too which made me suspect the pressure switch is bad, but I am confused about the circuit breaker tripping. I have rinsed the filters with water and open the Weir door all the way. The circulation pump had water coming out when I did a air lock test, it also has water coming spitting from the 1/4-inch hole in the filter well . The heater 6KW had corrosion on it and the lead to the relay board was corroded and broken ( I cleaned it and reattached it, he heater reads 10 ohm) The thermostat and high limit sensors both have the same ohm reading.  Through elimination, nothing tripped the breaker until the jet pump was plug in and then on for about 30sec . I was wondering if it could be the Run Capacitor ( the motor had a bit of rust, i ordered a new shaft seals will install them when they arrive). Kind of out of ideas

Any help would be appreciated .

Thank you,

Jerome

I've diagnosed dozens of spas remotely.  A picture of the control box can help greatly.  Has the electrical been touched or has the spa been moved and hooked up somewhere new?

You can test your pressure switch by unplugging it form the board with the spa running/circ pump operating and test for continuity at the end you unplugged form the board.  Your meter will likely beep when you touch the leads together and it is set to continuity.  You want to hear that beep when testing the PS.  If you don't it's likely bad.  They can be replaced on modern HS heaters with a 73995.  Use some teflon tape or pipe dope.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the quick reply. The hot tube is at my mother house that she purchased. I ll have to get back to you with some photos. while I don't have any history of the hut tub it look like it it has been in the same place a while. It look like it was wired correctly by previous house owner. As far as for the pressure switch I will test it later in the week. I ordered the Sundance Spas Heater Flow Switch to replace it in case it is bad.

I will take pictures of the control board, I did not notice any marks. The relay board had a burn mark on the plastic of the terminal where the corroded white heater wire was ( however the soldering in back of the relay board looked ok). But what I am assuming perhaps incorrectly is that because it is the 20 amps breaker that is tripping and not the 30amps it is not the heater.

Thanks for helping out

Will get back with some pictures

No problem. You are correct the 20 amp breaker powers everything except the heater in your Prodigy. I’ll check back later for a photo.
