Hot Tub Serum anyone?

Hi everyone --

I don't post here very often but those who have followed my work may be interested in a set of experiments I just concluded re: "Hot Tub Serum".  This is a maintenance product produced by the makers of "ahh-some", a purge product that should require no introduction here.  I have been relentlessly testing stuff and pointing out the difference between useful products and snake oil, and after a year or more of using this "Hot Tub Serum" I have enough information to share, finally.   Below is a link to "part 8" of my work which concludes my experiments and also links back to "part 7" which is the first of the two "Hot Tub Serum" posts.  These are a follow-on to my experimentation with Ahh-some.  The details are too long to post here directly, so the link below is to my hobby photography site where I chronicle my experiments.

Has anyone else played with this stuff?  my chemistry regimen is now quite simple:

* I use the "dichlor-then-switch-to-bleach"" program for both chlorine and bromine, although with Serum in the water the cutover is less critical

* I purge with ahh-some on every drain

* I am now using Hot Tub Serum as a supplement to my sanitizer regimen.  I no longer use MPS

no floaters, no scum balls, no anti-foam -- I try to keep things as simple as possible

Hi dlleno,

I've used Hot Tub Serum in my two person hot tub that just my wife and I used a couple of years go.  We would bath before getting in the tub and the tub has an Ozone generator and a Nature2 stick in the filter housing(https://www.nature2.com/en/spa-products/nature2-spa).  We used the tub for about a year back in 2017 and after getting the $100/month electric bill jump decided to un-plug the tub.  I wasn't testing the water at that time other than it's visual clarity.  I changed the water twice during that year and it stayed pretty clear during that time with some occasional surface bubbles that I would skim off.

Given the current stay at home situation, it's time to recommission the tub and get her ready for some more soak time.  I used the Total Cleanse Watercare before and still have some and am upgrading the insulation around the tub as well as getting solar on my roof.  Though, I'd really like to find an energy efficient way to heat the spa rather than the 240v instantaneous heater, if you have suggestions there, I'm all ears?

I wasn't reading this blog back then, but figured I have more time to learn about how to get the water conditioned and keep it as comfortable and safe as possible with the minimum about of chemical treatment.

Appreciate your diligent self analysis and experimenting with Hot Tub Serum from your blog link, cuz I still have 2/3 of the bottle left and would like to finish using it.  I'm slowly learning about adding the Chlorine or Bromine, but am wondering about the affects of the Ozone generator and the Nature2 stick and then the addition of either chlorine or bromine?

Also regarding testing, were you using one of the Taylor kits as suggested here, or were you using another testing method?  I feel like once I get it cleaned and flushed and ready to fill again, I should have a better plan going forward.  Any answers or comments to the above you can share would be appreciated.

Looking forward to getting back out for a soak, thanks, Mike
