2004 Caldera Jet Pump Motor Replacement help

Take the plastic cover off the back of the motor.  There are 4 through bolts that go through the motor into the pump.  Since you have a 48 frame pump, they would be 1/4" bolts.  On the new motor, there are 4 nuts in the front that hold the through bolts in place until you mount the motor.  Remove and discard them.

You are going to have to remove the pump impeller from the motor shaft, which will require holding the impeller still while turning the motor shaft clockwise.  You'll probably need a breaker bar on the shaft, and an impeller tool to keep it motionless.  It's not a pleasant job without the impeller tool.

Want some advice?   Get yourself a complete motor/pump assembly.  Your pump is covered with white residue, which indicates a leak which is probably what damaged your first motor.  Getting a new motor isn't going help with the pump leaking water into it.  It'll be dead in a few months.

Hi Dave,

Wow great advice! The white residue was from a leak in an adjacent line, but I would much rather take the safe route and assume it's bad.I looked for the whole assembly but didn't have much success finding it. Any idea how to order as an as a full assembly?

Thanks!

Bill

I would use either an AquaFlo XP2 48Frame 230V 8.5 AMP 2 speed pump:  http://www.spapartsdepot.com/aqua-flo-fmxp-xp2-2-0-hp-230v-2-speed-2-48-fr-pump-part-06120-230/

I can't tell by your picture if the old pump has 2" or 2.5" fittings.  2" are far more common.  The diameter of the screw on coupling for the pipes will be just shy of 3" on a 2" pump.  (The diameter of the pipe is 2")  Just measure across the top of the pump:  http://tinypic.com/m/jtm0r6/2

You can also use a Waterway pump if you find it at a better price.  Waterway and Aquaflo make most of the pumps out there, the spa manufacturers just put their label on them and double the price. Just get a double speed, match the voltage, amperage, frame size (48) and of course the plumbing size.
