Squealing Whisper-Flo

I replaced the motor on a Whisperflo earlier this week and when I restarted the motor it began to squeal when it got a full prime. The sound is comparable to that of a slipping belt on a car. My first thought was the motor was bad out of the box and tried another motor. This problem continued with the new motor and is intermitent. Some times it may take 20 seconds to start and sometimes several minutes. The sound is not constant and can last eqaul periods of time.

I first notice that when the sound starts the volute area of the pump begins to vibrate and their is a constant turbulant sound. The pump does not suck any air and runs at about 11 PSI normal and slightly higher around 12 PSI when it is making the noise. I removed the cartridge from the filter first to see if that had anything to do with the noise but it did not. I next removed the module from the paramount water valve and that did not correct the problem either. I have also isolated the skimmer and main drain each via the divertor valve and no improvement on either side.

Today I am going to return and place a vac guage on the pump and see if I draw any excess vacuum, but if anyone has any other suggestions I am stumped and getting frustrated. I have also removed the motor from the pump under no load and cannot recreate the issue. I have worked on swimming pools for 11 years and never seen this before. Please Help

I resolved my issue with the Whisperflo and for anybody following the thread, the issue came from a missing diffuser o-ring. Although I knew the o-ring was missing when I took the pump apart, I was too lazy to drive to the distributor and figured it couldn't have that much effect on the operation. Again I'm a seasoned tech but time is money. I did however find that the pressure increased to 22 PSI and the paramount pops up began working another issue he wanted me to check out. Both the vacuum and pressure increased and all because of a little o-ring. Guess those engineers have me beat, and you can be assured I will have diffuser o-rings stocked in my van from now on. Thanks for the advice sent to me and I hope I can provide others with advice in the future.
