Spa God Posted November 23, 2010 Report Share Posted November 23, 2010 Ive always used the GE Silicone II Sealant... hell it works in the bathroom and that is much harsher than a Hot Tub environment, heck look around the shower... It's wet almost all the time, gets subject to harsh chemicals weekly in a way higher concentration than your hot tub ever would and lasts 10 years, and still looks fine!!! I am 99% certain that marking the stuff "marine grade" is a marketing ploy designed to fool us into paying 3X the price for the same product. The biggest difference with the marine grade seems to be the fact that it does not have acetic acid in it which only matters if it is used on metal... no real benefit in a hot tub, in fact some Marine grades are silicone mixed with other sealants and are often polysulfide-based which can adversely affect plastics. Never had issues with silicone failure... frankly the surface prep and application is probably way more important than the actual sealant!
