No Air In Jets

hi there, i'm new to this forum and found it while trying to troubleshoot my problem. i have a softub portable spa and just had it recovered/relined, when i got it back and hooked it up again i found the air control valve wasnt working. i took the valve off and it seems to be functioning properly. but the air line to the tub is actually pumping water out of the tub and up towards the air valve? my thinking is that this is wrong and that the water pressure is keeping the air valve closed. if i shut down the powerpack i can blow through the air line and air will come out the jets. is there a check valve that the spa company didnt replace??? if anyone has any suggestions i would be most gratefull, thanks in advance.

Check to make sure that the foam insulation that is in the pump housing isn't blocking the air intake as it makes a 90 degree angle from the tub up to the controller unit. I just took my pump unit apart recently because I had an issue with a leak and put it back together and this was my issue. Push the foam back down below the 90. Hope this helps!

In case anyone else is searching this solution, when the same happened to me I remembered a very thin white plastic ring that came out of the Jet retainer that the directional adjuster pushes onto (if you have the older style).  It's maybe 3/16" in thickness and maybe 1.5"-2" in diameter which is supposed to go in first before the section that screws into the wall. It essentially functions like a washer and prevents the water flowing back into the jet cavity and the air intake.  I had a look around and saw that I had in fact forgotten to replace that ring when I unscrewed the jet to clean.  Putting it back solved the problem of the water coming back out of the air valve.  Also they may warp or crack with time and may need replacement if the jets are not as  powerful or the valve seems less effective at controlling air flow.

What was the solution?   I think I'm missing that insert for the air pump line but can't seem to find where to buy one
