Calcium Hardness

Recommended Posts

so...where should a guy run his hardness at??? My water comes out of the tap at 90ppm......is that too low????

I was thinking about bringing it to 150ppm but my water is very stable the way it is...what do you think??? bring it up or leave it alone?

For a hot tub, the main reason to have the Calcium Hardness (CH) higher at around 150 ppm is to reduce foaming. There also may be some better protection against corrosion, though that is controversial. Use The Pool Calculator to calculate the saturation index -- don't forget to include temperature and target a slightly negative index (-0.1 or -0.2). If the index gets positive, then the risk of scale increases.
