Raise Cya Level

hi,

my pool has a CYA level of 0. Do I have to buy the expensive stabilizer from the pool store or can I use something else to raise the CYA level?

You either have to get pure CYA which is pretty much only available at pool stores and big-box hardware stores or you have to use stabilized chlorine, Dichlor or Trichlor. The least expensive approach is either to use pure CYA or to use Dichlor (over time) -- see this post. Remember these chemical rules:

For every 10 ppm Free Chlorine (FC) added by Trichlor, it also increases Cyanuric Acid (CYA) by 6 ppm.

For every 10 ppm FC added by Dichlor, it also increases CYA by 9 ppm.
