newyorker
Is there any benefit in purchasing a pool that has a wide mouth skimmer? Does it make a difference in keeping the pool clean?
Pathfinder
Some say yes some say no. The bodies of the 2 are the same size. The wide mouth is supposed to allow more area to bring in surface debris. The biggest pieces of junk IMO are those floating skimmers that you find on Splash pools. imnay
All we can share is our non-pro opinion. Our contractor/installer said that the most imortant factor in keeping pool water filtered and clean was the power and ability of the pump and system to move water through the system. That's why we paid him more to have not only a skimmer but a center "main drain" in the bottom of our 27 ft round AGP. We also had a second outlet from our filter installed and a in-ground quality powerful pump and filter system. Even with the 6 1/2 ft. center added depth we estimate we cycle our water completely about every 4 hours so we don't think the wider skimmer opening would do much - the trick is getting the water to move and water volume through the system. Best of Luck and Good Swimming!
