P8ch Posted January 12, 2009 Report Share Posted January 12, 2009 Howdy all.. I took delivery of my brand new shrink wrapped spa last month...it sat on the patio while we went away on vaction. Today was hook up day and after the electrician did his thing, I filled up the foot well of the spa and threw on the power. The tub has a Balboa pack and it went into priming or 'pr' mode. Pump one hummed for a few seconds and went silent...Pump two did the same thing. It seems that the impellers are frozen in place? I know what an unprimed pump sounds like when it spins in futility and this does not seem to be my situation. The spa was water tested at the factory in California but me suspects that it was not shopvacked out prior to shipping to me here in Ontario Canada. So the tub is now full of water (2/3 cold followed by 1/3 hot) and is sitting at 63 Ceclius. A heat gun set on low is inside the cabinet for an overnight thaw ( I hope!) and we'll try again in the morning. Anyone else exerience this problem?? Or recognise my symptoms? Yep sound like ice in the pumps. The pumps should have drain plugs in them. You can remove them and see if water comes to see if it thawed Got up this morning and air blower works....and Pump 1 works....Pump 2 - not so worky....but at least there is flow to the heater element....and the slow crawl begins - just in time too as the thermometer is set to plummet. Will the ambient heat from pump 1 and the rise in water temp thaw out pump 2? Pump 2 happens to sit on the side of the tub that is 4 inches from the stone wall...access is none to easy.
