Help Please .. Air In Pump Inlet

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, any help would be appreciated!!

We have a 16x32 inground pool. It is running on Skimmer only because the main drain has been plugged. There gradually over the season has been more and more air coming out of the jets of the pool. Today there is a significant amount. There is a white 'mist' coming out of the jets due to the air, but still a lot of water movement. When i look through the clean cap at the pump inlet, i can clearly see a reasonable amount of air in there. Does anyone have any suggestions of what i can do to either remedy or find out the problem?

I just dont want to call in a pool specialist if its something i can fix myself, i am mechanically inclined, im just not sure what to do!

Thanks in advance, its greatly appreciated!!

All the pipes coming to front of the pump need to be check first. If there is unions disassemble the pipes and retape with teflon tape and pipe dope. If no unions are available you can cut the pipe, fix like above and than install a union. Since it only a skimmer is a valve still there to run the pool half skimmer and half drain? If so eliminate it. depending on what kind of valve it is, it could be causing the problem. Most of the time it is the pipe going into the pump. You can also try Silicone to seal the threads at any valve ot pump fittings

First thing to do is to determine where the air leak is. The easiest way is to have someone turn the pump on and off. When the pump goes off look around all the fittings and the pump lid. Water will always spit out of the void where air is coming in.
