I am having a similar frustrating issue, i inherited a hot tub with the house we moved into last year. It had sat empty for about 3 years, i being new to hot tub ownership thought i could scrub the shell, clean the filter and fill it up. i heated the water, threw some left over sanitizer in and figured i was good to try it.
It didn't take long before Green\Yellow flaky stuff started coming out of the jets. i spent a couple hours\days fishing it out with a net expecting it to stop at some point. it never did, so i bought Ah Some and did a flush.
More flakes and bioscum came out, i drained the tub scrubbed it. Refilled it, heated it, turned the jets on and more came out. i sanitized the water thinking surely it would end at some point. it didnt, so i flushed with Ah Some again. this time i took all of the jets heads out and left it purging for a few hours.
Refilled it again, but the stuff just won't completely go away. it ebbs and flows. i go out every morning and evening to test the water and scoop out whatever is in there.
PH has always been consistent, but alkalinity and hardness have been low. I have been trying to balance the chemistry while periodically shocking the water.
shocking it seems to break it down faster from greenish to more whitish yellow but it seems to go back to green pretty quickly...
looking at purging it again this weekend.
super frustrating, im not even sure if the stuff is re-growing or if im still just clearing the lines from it sitting so long.
any advice or guidance would be appreciated! i have been doing daily maintenance on a hot tub i haven't used in weeks and im starting to lose my mind.
